Default type r compression

i did a compression test today and it came out 1 cyc 165. 2 cyc 157. 3 cyc 160. 4 cyc 165. is that normal compression or what. i notice that my spark plugs were kinda white ish. what is the normal compression for type r?

depends. if the engine is cold and the tb is closed, yes that's somewhat normal. if it's a warm engine and the tb is open the numbers are low. normally you start going through a lot of oil when it gets near time to swap out the engine. once you start burning a quart every 500 miles you're basically on the clock for a fractured piston or exhaust valve.

My compression test came up about the same.
160-165 in all cylinders, 5-8% leakdown
I had it done at honda dealer.
My car smokes in vtec though, runs good otherwise and still puts down 163hp on the dyno in stock trim.
I will eventually pull motor and have it rebuilt in the near future

if thats cold thats ok, the white color could be oil if its a crusty build up.

my 82mm ls/vtec with ITR pistons pull 250 compression

i did warm up the car but i didnt open the TB. what else could be the reason why my spark plugs are white and little crusty. can it be from running too lean?

this is a plug chart, which one is yours?

if it looks like the deposits plug, well, that oil burning is why

my R has a jdm motor in it and it has 240 across the line but i do burn some oil depending on how i drive it (going in to v-tec every gear ) but the car made 180 whp and 114 tq so i dont know if thats good or bad

Will honensty those numbers are kind of low and scary! When i did my compression test all my numbers were 190 st8 accross the board. they say a heathy motor should be +/- 20 from 200 depending if your have high compression piston or not. GL with your ITR!

well i did it again and this time i let it warm up little bit more and it came out in 170s all of them. i had my car tuned before on vtec and it pulled 175 to the wheels. only reason i did the compression is cuz it just felt little bit slower than before.

It's not the low numbers part that you guys should be concerned about, it would be the variance between cylinders. Anything past 12-15 psi variance between individual cylinders should raise red flags and would be a significant indicator of major problems to come.

I remember when I compression tested my ITR, I was at 145psi on cylinder one with no more than 3psi variance on adjacent cylinders while cold. That is the sign of a healthy motor

Mine currently reads:

270/270/270/250 (cylinder#1)

Any ideas why this one cylinder is lower than the rest? Doesn't burn oil and runs really strong still. Though I am due for a valve adjustment. Could an incorrect valve lash setting (too tight or too loose) cause false compression readings? I'm going to perform a valve adjustment tomorrow night but just thought I'd ask if any of you have ever experienced low compression readings due not adjusting your valves? Thanks.
