Default HELP!!!!300+ compression

ok well jus bought an ls vtec swap........i had it sitting for a while but when i finally put it in its like i ordered a smoke machine it smokes on startup idle part throttle and full throttle...ok feelin shity and thinking my rings were bad i go and check my compression what i saw was very surprising 300+ across the board so i dunno wat it is could it be the oil rings, valve seals,or headgasket???? please help appreciated

wow dude thats really really high like 13:1 CR do u know if it has high compression pistons in it or anything...i know you said you just bought it so im taking it you didnt do any motor work internally but i would get ahold of the old owner and see if anything is done internally

Maybe all the oil in the cylinders has increased the compression.

i had a clogged flex pipe that brought my compression up from 265 to 300. but no smoke at all.

it sound to me like there is something in the combustion chamber that shouldnt be there.. this would most deffinately explain the high compression. remove each spark plug and spray compressed air down into each cylinder to see if you can remove any oil, water, etc.. if the rings are bad and there is too much oil pressure causing blow-by then it may be a large oil buildup in the combustion chamber, again causing it to smoke and be high compression.

you cant judge compression ratio by compression pressure.

First off, do you have adjustable cam gears?

When you did you compession test, did you pull the ECU fuse?

Obviously youve got an oil issue somewhere. Since the compression numbers are high I would believe it to possibly be the valve seals and not the rings. IF it were the rings the compression would be lower. If its the valve seals youre simply getting oil into the combustion chamber and its SEALING the rings. Therefore giving you the compression numbers you are seeing.

If you have adjustable cam gears then they may not be adjusted properly. With my motor with the cams @ 0 - 0, my cranking compression was well over 300. When I degreed the cams these numbers went down.

Report back with some answers and maybe I can help some more.

300, how is the test being done, my gsr w/ b16 pistons was high 200's at 4 stroke if it was continued to crank would max out at 305.

Advancing the valve timing will improve VE at lower speeds, thus increasing dynamic compression.

Thank you. I wasnt sure how to technically explain it.

On a side note. I bought a car from holmdel a few years ago.
