civic is smoking
ok so my 95 dx coupe started smoking just a couple days ago.. it doesnt always smoke just like when i take off from stops cant really tell but it looks like a blueish black color.. anyone know why its smoking that color?
since its early on i the issue, put a block tester on it and see if its a head gasket issue. if not it may be oil burning more than usual. rings may be shot or you may have head issues. you need to see about the head gasket to and start diagnosing the problem ASAP
you can buy a compression tester from autozone for 50 bucks. if you are lucky they have one top rent. doing a compression test is really easy. pretty much pull out fuel pump fuse, crank make sure it doesn't start, pull a spark plug, thread the adapter plug in compression gauge let needle bounce three times thats the compression for that cylinder. replace plug. repeat for other three cylinders. refer to spec each cylinder should be within so much to pass

compression tester available from autozone. its a tool if you dont know since you were asking. second, a leak down test should be done bu a shop since i'm guessin you have never done that either. i'm not trying to sound like an *** but you were asking how you do the compression test so i would assume you dont know this stuff.
on the rings, well its tough to call that on here. new block not needed. however, there are lots of people who prefer doing the cheap thing and get junk yard motors. you can have a shop re machine the block for new rings but a shop will have to see it

yeah here too its a price like that. its like maybe 10 hours (an estimated time) to pull and replace the engine. then its like 13-1500 for the rebuild. dealer timing belts, head gasket, dist. cap and rotor, and felpro gasket set (extra felpro head gasket gets trashed or given to the owner) and like as much as 500 for the extra remaining parts that are required for the warranty. this includes new fuel injectors, filters, sensors etc.
OP do the tests and make a decision from there your best bet would be to swap in a used motor rather than rebuilding d series engines are plentiful
if you do the compression test make sure you get the car to operating temperature for a more accurate reading, good luck man, i got a 95 dx also. if the engines burned just swap in a b18b!! heres some info on the compression test http://www.team-integra.net/sections...ArticleID=1086
