Default Ignition timing problem

Mechanical timing is perfect, I checked it while the engine was out the car.

Vacuum lines are all where they were the first time I drove it and the timing was fine.

It idles around 500rpm and should be at about 750-1000rpm.

If I give it gas and let off, it doesn't always catch itself and usually dies.

Distributor is turned all the way towards the front of the car (advanced?) and still isn't enough.

Yes I'm trying to set it with the service connector jumped.

It is a B18B block with B18C5 head.

you can adjust the idle with the screw by the throttle body.

how far off is the timing?

Well the idle improves as the timing gets closer to where it should be. If I could get the ignition timing where it should be, I think it would idle just fine. The timing is about 12-16 degrees too advanced, I'd guess.

If the ignition timing is out that much, then you need to retard your cams. Triple check your mechanical timing. What distributor are you using?

Head - B18C5
Block - B18B
Cams - B18C1
Cam gears - PR3
Water pump - 22T
Distributor - TD68U (OBD1 GSR)

Wouldn't retarding the cams cause performance loss? or no?
