Default Why is my FMIC heatsoaked?

Well it's been awhile since I posted here. But I'm stumped on this problem and I know there are a lot of turbo gurus on this board. Keep in mind that this is on an Eclipse though the question/answer should apply to any car with a turbo/FMIC.

I can't understand why my FMIC (HKS core w/ custom end tanks) is getting heat soaked. I still have the T25. The profec is turned off right now and boost is at 12psi. When it's on it's set to 15psi. Either way, the IC is hot.

I know my T25 is on it's last leg. Is it possible that the turbo will cause the IC to heatsoak if a blade is chipped or if it has excessive shaft play? I have a crank case breather so the only oil that could possibly be in the IC would be from the turbo seals itself if they are failing. The FMIC end tank used to be ICE cold and now it's pretty warm and is hardly seems effective at all.

I'm replacing the turbo in about 2 weeks. Will this solve the problem or do I need to pull the FMIC?

Running alot of boost off a t25 will generate ALOT of heat. I have the same probem with my t25 in my eclipse...the intercooler gets hot fast.

Do a few hard pulls and then pop the hood..i bet your turbo is GLOWING super hot.

When you are pushing a turbo to the edge..it ends up generating more heat then air...you might be having similar problems.

True, but 12psi is not a lot for a T25. Besides, my FMIC end tank used to be ICE cold a few months back. Only recently is it heatsoaked. Perhaps the seals on the turbo are going the the IC is coated with oil decreasing its efficiency?

here's a ghetto tric i used. goto home depot. you can stop laughing now.... and buy some thin sheet aluminum. build a heat shield the entire height, from the turbo to the downpipe. this will stop the radiant heat from the turbo from soaking your IC. ugly, but it worked for me.

My IC was next to the radiator INSIDE the engine bay about 1" away from the turbo housing and downpipe.

It depends on the motor. 12psi for a 4 litre motor on a t25 would be really hard. hehe

Retarded timing makes alot of heat...have you changed your timing lately?
