Default Ok, smog ref stories

Ok it's about time for me to go there.

Any tips?

Here is what I have...

'96 LS Block
'98 LS Head
'95 LS Intake manifold
Using 90-91 LS Electronics/Distributor

I have all smog equipment and vacuum lines hooked up for a '95 motor. I am using the B18B Map sensor and evap purge solenoid. All of the hokey CRX stuff on the firewall is gone.

I am going to smog the motor as a 1995.

The PCV system for 96+ is on the valve cover, so there is no PCV port on the back of the block. I have a '94 valve cover on the motor. I installed the black OEM "catch can" behind the block and it looks as if it is connected to the block, but it is not. The PCV system is not functional but it looks functional.

I installed a 4 wire O2 sensor. I only hooked up 1 wire to the sensor though. The other 3 are connected to the sensor and taped into the engine harness but they do not actually connect to anything. I was too lazy.

Dustin

lots of spark. mind sending that 4 wire sensor over when your done i cant keep mine hot enough while crusing. voltage drops as they cool then i get a resulting 8:1 a/f mixture via a cel 1.

pcv dosent do anything for emitions really

Yeah I think I'm going to take the car to a smog pretest at a local place first just to verify that it will pass tailpipe emissions... but I'm worried about the visual...

I have a new O2, cap, rotor, plug wires, everything. Everything is brand new except the cat... but Jeremy smogged his integra just fine with this cat. so I think it is OK.

Looks like peeps pretty much covered what you need to do and besides the ref checking the O2 connections, which I doubt, you should be fine. I agree with getting a pretest, but you have 2 tries anyway for the price of one if you get lazy again Good luck to you. In case your CAT doesnt work, I have a new Catco CAT that i used to pass...I took it out right after. let me know, if you need to borrow it. **another member in the area wants to borrow it too, by the way. It's here if you need it. (Hayward, CA)

dustin..i BARed my rex in sacramento....u may have a problem with the ecu if your running a 90-91 ecu....they want documentation from the dealer that the ecu belongs to the year motor you are running....they got me for that...also i have tried aseveral times to get a pre-test in places in sac and none would even test my emissions...they all said "you must go to a ref"...by the way my ref center was on buisness drive near hiram johnson h.s.

Hmm, how do you get documentation like that? I don't even know how it would work. Can I just forge something.. ?

Worst case scenario I get an obd0->obd1 harness and a P74 I guess.

Did you eventually get your BAR sticker? How did you get past the ECU nonsense...

Hmm, do they actually unbolt the ECU and check the numbers?

Hehe well the 90-91 ecu flashes at the ECU.. not at the dash. It's covered by that metal plate bolted to the floor & the carpet.. hmm... I might have to do the free retest thing.

How OEM does your engine bay look?

oh and tried the play dunb thing about my motor being JDM....they new....they even tried to educate me with a 2-3 page chart...they new exactly what yr and block code for all jdm motors

Hehe.... hmm... I was hoping they were really dumb.

Well I guess I can just see what happens hehe.

I know jeff BARed his '00 ITR motor as a '98. Hopefully they believe mine is a '95... cause I don't have smog equipment for a '96.
