Default Shifted From 5th to 2nd

My friend called me tonight telling me he was about to race someone (he has 2001 prelude)and he was about to downshift from 5th to 4th, but it somehow he went into 2nd. His RPM's dropped to zero and he pulled over and turned off his car. Then when he went to start it back up, it wouldnt start. So he had it towed to Honda. Anyone know what may have happened? He says he probably bent some valves.... Thanx in advance.

updated version form one of are very own HT members "now me and ronald got to tear down the counter and replace the onion rings u fried"

the rev limiter doesnt protect the motor from over revving?

rev limiter will protect you from makeing it that high in a gear, but mechaniclly if you go into the wrong gear, the car is moving so its going to moove the enging to match the speed.

i went from 8000 in 3rd , to second the day i tightend my valves, soo bye bye valves! it looks as if its only the exust ones, but im not totally sure yet.

Damn, thats shitty. Some people are lucky and nothing happens, and others aren't. I've done this a few times, but luckly nothing happened to my motor.

yeah, i have a 96 prelude si (h23) anyways i was cruising down the road one day and got in a little race, shifting from 5th to 2nd accidently, anyways all that happened was my tach maxed out and quit moving and my power steering belt shot off... guess i was lucky!

Tell your friend to look at it this way; at least now he has a perfect excuse to get a fully built head

Probably bent valves, but he could have broke a rod, or maybe even fired some pistons.

dont take it to honda and dont buy honda valves (20 a piece for stock valves for honda for high prices). any "good" perofrmance shop should be able to replace the valves and they will be way cheapers than honda. and if he needs to save even more money tell him to take the head off and put it back on himself, only let the shop install the valves.
