Default SOHC or DOHC in New EF

On friday im trading my B16 ED for an EF with a Y7 in it.
Now here is my delima
I have a Y8 in my garage, but I also have an LS. Along with the Mounts, Tranny, Linkage, Ecu, ECT.
.... Which one should i do?
i have never had a single cam Civic. Im sure its gonna be slow. and i LOVED the torque with my B18 when it was in my ED.
So which one would be a better thing to do?

First thought is LS, cuz i have everything to do the swap. But im thinking i could have fun with the Y8 too.
... For cheap power, what are the pro's and con's to both?

I have a 91 lx sedan with a d16y8, power windows, door locks, full equip. ran 15.34@87.4 mph. Car is bone stock exept intake. These sohc are fun. Build your y8 head and then putting it on the y7 with a tune and you will have much more fun than with an ls, but some people will say a b18b with sir tranny is better. I say try the sohc with a cam and tune.

op: i would go with the ls since you already have the parts you need to install it. way more fun than the stock single banger.

Why? 15.3 isn't Earth shattering or anything. If a B16 swapped EF will run mid-14's with 160-170bhp then a swapped EF with a SOHC VTEC can run a 15.3 with 120-130bhp.

i was leaning more tward the ls because i have everything. And then i can easly put my GSR in it once i get it rebuilt.

But ive heard boosted single cams are LOTS of fun.

single cams are fun. my brother did a mini me (a6 block w/ y8 head) in his crx with just a short ram intake, ractive header, and a crappy exhaust, on an obd0 b16 ecu and it ran a 9.5 1/8 mile. I would put the y8 in and then sell the ls swap (minus the mounts, linkage, ect.) and put that money towards your GSR swap.

Posting quarter mile times is stupid. temperature, vehicle weight, driver skill, altitude, tyres, what the driver ate for breakfast are all things that are going to skew the results. A car with all those things in it's favor might do a high 14, yet if they're against the same car, it might run a 17.

These threads typically lead no where. In the end it is your decision. Whatever you are most happy with. It is your car not ours. I see pros to both of them there are no cons.
