Default SOHC y8 and y7 questions

Are the 2 different generation SOHC Vtec bottom ends identical....

If i had the older head with the newer bottm end?

The Y8 is a SOHC VTEC motor and the Y7 is a SOHC nonVTEC motor. Both are from the same generation cars: 1996-00. I'm not sure what you're trying to do, maybe you're confusing the 92-95 D16Z6 (SOHC VTEC) with the 96-00 D16Y7?
