having timing issues

Icon3 having timing issues

i just recently bought a 93 dx with a b15d7 it had a blown head gasket. rebuilt the motor with new balancer water pump and timing gear. also replaced cap rotor and distributor( cranked on the car and the seal blew on the old distributor) since installing the new distributor ive had a problem with it jumping time bad i cant even put it in first with the thing backfiring. i also replaced the ecu and all electronic wiring fuses and relays. its just kept me confused. any suggestions would be appreciated

do you have the t-belt set to the right deflection? loosen the tensioner and then tighten it down slightly. now turn the engine clockwise 3 times then torque the tensioner to spec.


and what seal are you talking about on the dizzy?

its a lil o-ring seal thats flush with the head when its installed that went and oil spilled in the cap so i said screw it i wanted to upgrade it anyways. the only reason im makin a big deal about the timing is cuz i have a b18c5 comming for it and i want to use my b15 as a backup in case i have to pull out the c5 in the future

You have a D15 not a B15. And it sounds like you may not have the timing belt tight enough and the slack is allowing it to skip a tooth or two. And i hope you know a b18c5 isnt going to bolt straight in, you need a b series tranny, axles, ecu, wiring harness, shift linkage and also b series engine mounts made to fit your application

i know the c5 isnt going to bolt directly i have all new wiring harneses and ecu along with a tranny and half shaft axles. but thanks for lettin me know ive tried almost everything even taking the dummy plug out the distributor to advance it and still messes up. ill keep yall informed. like i said b4 i just gna use this motor as a back up but i still want it incase sumthing happens
