Default 1990 honda accord 160k

My 1990 Accord. I have a few questions.

low idle from IACV? the engine feels like it misses when i accelerate a little bit when it is idling that low.

does the hood look salvageable?

my check engine light came on after putting in fuel system cleaner. How long will this last? i tryed reseting my ecu and found my fuse was a 10 instead of a 7.5, could this have any adverse affects?

thanks for taking your time with this noob. +D

i am going to try the air duster/blow dryer on the smaller dents.

First things first, have you tried adjusting the IACV screw if you're getting an low idle?

As for the CEL. Just remove the negative battery terminal for a few seconds and put it back on. That will reset your ECU but will also reset the clock and radio so if your radio has a theft code, make sure you have it first. I wouldn't use the 10 A fuse if it needs the 7.5 A. Fuses are cheap.. if you're reallly poor, just go pick one up at the junkyard .

well my adjusting srew is stripped out, thanks to the previous owners. It doesn't appear to be loose at all tho. the IACV i'm sure needs to be cleaned out and would help the problem. i attempted to clean the IACV but the socket wrench i had wouldnt fit in between the bolt and the fuel rail.

I have replaced the ecu fuse with the 7.5, the CEL is still on, people have said it can take a couple of tanks to get rid of it all.

could a mucked up fuel filter be messing with my idle? it would be a good idea to change my fuel filter after using a fuel system cleaner? right?

thanks.

i've learned step one is to insure that the ignition system is in top shape. if any part is even slightly questionable, replace it. plugs, wires, cap, rotor... be sure you use NGK brand plugs and high quality (NGK and Denso are two) wires.

then probably replace the idle adjustment screw.

if you still have problems after that, reply back.

1st off if your CEL is on, get the trouble codes for it. you can do this easily by find the jumper wire for the ECU, and sticking the 2 ends of a paper clip in the jumper plug. turn the key to on(not starting it) and the CEL will start flashing on your dashboard, a solid flash is 10, a short flash is 1. Look up the trouble code online, and figure out what your car is trying to tell you.

It will probably be a no brainer after that.

make sure you IACV is plugged in, that will make your car idle VERY low if its unplugged. check your EGR plug too, that will make your car idle like **** too.

changed plug wires.

checked my ecu and got error 41 aka oxygen sensor heater. read some more haynes, and went and looked at my o2 connector piece. The damned wires were coming out haha. should i replace the o2 sensor since the wires came loose during operation?

now it's giving me code 1, makes me think of what i just asked..

i plan on cleaning the iacv before i start my car up again. (was warm, letting cool) I will post anything else that comes up once i get it done.

thanks for all the help.

edit

okay after starting up i got code 41 again. i went for a drive, the o2 wires were fine, but the connector came loose.

So buying a new o2 sensor on pay day. how hard is it to remove/install? i read a special socket is needed. $$

thanks.

srry for the dbl post. i bought a new o2 sensor and put it on, then went to plug it in and the pieces are the same sex! wtf? i'm wondering whether i got a mixed up sensor or someone took it apart and put the connectors on the wrong side... any help? ha

i guess i am going to take off the other sides piece and wire it into the right sex connector.

thanks for the help.

damn i seen a few incorrect posts on here so here what i think cuz i didnt read them all. first you have to pull your back-up fuse out of the underhood fuse box to reset the CEL light. pull it out for ten seconds. dont worry about the radio code- the 1990 accord dont have the radio code anti theft code. now your idle should be at like 750 rpms + or -50 rpms, when at normal operating temp. the screen on the back of the iacv is what gets clogged with carbon/dirt build-up so clean that. also make sure the coolant lines are good and clear to it and the fast idle valve. the fast idle valve often is what goes bad on these cars creating idle problems, etc. now, did you check your CEL code? you should fix the problem before resetting it or it will come right back on. you only need a short wire to check it and the connector is probably hanging under the glove box (its often a blue 2-wire connector)

thanks but i am just trying to fix my oxygen sensor now.

i am getting code 41 and 1.

i need to know what wires go into what socket on the heater side of the o2 sensor connector.

i have tried pretty much all wire combinations and have still gotten the code..

since i switched the wires and turned on, is my o2 sensor now **** from all the wrong connections?

i would really appreciate it if someone would put a picture of the connector piece showing what color wire goes in what hole. for a 1990-93 LX accord.

it's really starting to **** me of... =[=[=[=[

thanks.

ur gonna need a multimeter and test the wires for bad connections. chiltons is pretty good at explaining how to test things for resistance and voltage.
