so i was driving home from walmart and all the sudden, i have no gas response but i have all the lights and everything working. it would not start aftewards so i had to get it towed home.
I checked the battery and it was weak when load is on it. My dad says it must be the alternator???? Could that be my probelm?

Also, jump starting would not start it either. so thats out.

i have a 94 teg.

 

so its not the alternator and i can hear the fuel pump whine.

but we're not getting any spark. could that be the distributor?

please help me.

 

If you're not getting spark but the distributor cap and rotor contacts are still in good condition, the culprit is either the ignition coil or the ignitor (a.k.a. ignition control module or ICM) inside the distrubutor. You do not need to replace the whole distributor; that's wasteful. Coils and ignitors are much cheaper and readily available.

The ignition coil is the more common failure on internal-coil distributors. I'd start with that.

 

well, we bought the coil and rotor and we tested it out but no spark.

and, then we found out we had oil in the distributor and some rubber on the wires were melted off so we're just going to replace it to be safe.

do you think the oil could cause this? please help me get through this. (my dad told me if we can't fix it, we're getting rid of it. i like it and it's my first car)

 

can anyone tell me what the peice that comes on before the rotor is called?
i dont know whats it called. it comes on before the rotor and then the rotor plugs on top of it. Please!
