HELP!!LS-VTEC BUILD 13.1 COMP. ISSUES
HEY WATS UP GUYS IM HAVING SOME LS VTEC ISSUES MOTOR WAS CALCULATED AND WAS 13.1 COMPRESSION TURNED IT ON FOR THE FIRST TIME LAST NIGHT MOTOR HAS A STOCK B16A HEAD BRAND NEW THO...AND THE BLOCK IS A 91 LS BLOCK BORED .5 OVER ,HAS 81.5MM FULL RACE HIGH COMPRESION PISTONS THEY WERE ALSO COATED TO WITHSTAND HIGH HEAT AND RPM,HOT TANKED AND HONED, BLOCK WAS SHAVED FOR HIGHER COMPRREION NEW NITRIC PISTON RINGS,NEW ARP ROD BOLTS, LS RODS SHOTPEENED,MICRO POLISHED AND BALANCED CRANK SHAFT, NEW KING THRUST FULL RACE BEARINGS,NEW MAIN SEAL,BLOCK WAS DECKED AND CLEANED BEFORE THE REBUILD...SO WHEN I TURNED IT ON AFTER 5 MINUTES AND IT LIFTED THE HEAD AND BLEW THE HEAD GASKET, STARTED OVER HEATING SMOKING AND TURNED THE HEADERS SUPER BRIGHT RED... IT ALSO HAD OEM STOCK LS HEAD STUDS THAT WER TORQED DOWN TO 75POUNDS ..PS IT WAS ON A TYPE R TUNE WITH STOCK INJECTORS.... CAN I GET SOME HELP ON MY NEXT STEP LIKE WAT I SHOULD GET OR WAT IT SHOULD BE TORQED DOWN TO WEN I GET A NEW HEAD GASKET AND SME ARP HEAD STUDS....???????? THANKS...
Your car needs a better base map suited for your setup, so you can get to the dyno. You also shouldn't be using Ls headstuds in a custom build like that much less torque them as high as 75 ft pounds. I use ARP head bolts and I torque them to 78 ft. lbs as required. Type R studs are suppose to be torqued to 63 ft lbs...get my drift.
When you take that head off, it is also a good idea to have that motor clayed before reassembly with the RIGHT HEAD STUDS FROM ARP.

Sorry for hijacking thread but...
I'm running a .3mm piston to head clearance, it sounds stupidly tight, but engine is running fine up to 8400rpm.. Should I have problems if I push it further?
