Default Clicking noises when turning

Hey guys I'm new here and have a problem with my civic. I own a 2000 civic si and just recently I have noticed a really bad clicking noise when turning while accelerating. It doesn't click when I have my foot on the clutch or when in neutral and turning. Before the clicking happened I did hear a sorta clacking noise under my car but can only hear it at lower rpms. After reading another guy's post about this same problem, I thought it would be the cv joint wearing out or what not but when I jacked up the car there wasn't any sign of damage to the cv boot nor was it leaking greese. I should also point out that I have my car slammed and have been driving on blown shocks for about 6 months. Can the cv joint still wear or go bad even if the boot isn't torn due to a really really bumpy/rough ride? What do you guys think? Please help!

Yeah, the CV joint can go out even if the boot is intact. Heat occurs inside and will wear the grease out.

Is it rare though? My car has about 122,000 miles, do you think the grease wearing out due to heat could be the possible problem based on my milage?

Yes it can go bad, even if the boot isn't ripped. Evevntually the grease cooks and the joint wears out.

k thanks for the help guys, I'm going to bring it into the mechanic and hopefully it's the axel because if it's not then I'm going to be spending 160 bucks for nothing. If I leave it as it is, with the clicking/clunking noise, will it do damage to other parts of my car? Like the transmission?

Eventually the CV joint will break apart and you can be stranded or, you'll just have a real uncomfortable drive. About after a week of that you'll prolly end up stranded cause your axle fell apart.

I drove with a bad CV joint for like 5 months while beating the **** out of my car at gymkhana and tarmac rally events. Transmission had a Mugen 1.5 way LSD in it so I wasn't exactly easy on the CV joints... On like the 6th month the CV joint finally broke apart.

after the cv joint broke, did it do damage to any other part of your car? Like say the transmission?

No, just annoyed the **** out of me and made driving the most miserable thing in the world.

I didn't even realize the CV joint broke. I was driving and noticed a strange rattle from the left size which over the course of a week turned into a violent vibration. I had gone through everything trying to figure out what it was, checked wheel bearings like 3 times, replaced the tie rod twice, retorqued all my arms and suspension. Finally I got so tired of it, I took the car out and tried to break whatever it was was broken,

It only dawned on me that it was the CV joint because when I launched the car at 7k RPM's it went hella left. I never once thought it would be a bad CV joint because the boots were still intact. Live and learn. But that's what I get for driving with the CV joint clicking for like 5 months. Now I keep a few sets of spare axles.

ok thanks this helped a lot, I'm probably going to change the axel then to get rid of the annoying rattling sound. I had the car jacked up for 2 days and for some reason the clicking stopped somewhat. It will probably start up again though, but the rattling is still there anyways. Yeah you're right, it's annoying as hell! Makes you feel like you're driving a broken car...
