Default do i need a new front axle, or is this another problem?

when im driving the ek for some reason i hear a clunking sound, starts at about 25mph and gets almost constant at like 60mph. not really clunking but when i pick up speed it sounds like someone knocking on a plastic bowl and it gets faster as i speed up, but not louder. its not from the engine cause i can turn the ****er off at 45mph and it will still clunk. i took the wheel off today on the passenger front side and the whole hub was loose, the rotor was bolted down tight but the hub was really loose, i could wiggle the wheel after it was bolted back on n stuff. wwhat do i need to replace there? is that a cv joint? just replace the whole axle? alignment?

im new to mechanics, so help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

could be wheel bearing, i could wiggle my wheel around with it bolted up too but not as bad as what your describing and a wheel bearing cleared it right up

how do i replace a wheel bearing? is that something i can do with just that, or is it another issue where replacing the whole axle would fix it

if its the bearing thats bad then the axle is prolly ok unless its clicking when your turning or throwing grease all under your car. Unless you have a press you can take the car somewhere or to save cash just take the hub assembly, a bearing costs around $50+ then labor to install it

k well ill just go wtih the new axle, the axle is bad anyways. i just feel like its a different problem. theres a straight up steady clunking noise when i drive, i dont feel like its a bearing or the cv joint

Then why do you think the axle is bad? Usually a bad CV Joint is the reason for an axle replacement. I've never replaced an axle unless the CV joint was bad.

sorry, im contradicting myself. i just mean, i havent replaced my axles yet, and i occasionally hear clicking when i turn so i know in general my axles need replacement. But i feel like there's another problem when it comes to the constant noise im hearing when im driving. possibly a bearing, but ill probably just get it checked out

listen to what everyone is telling you, remove your hub and take it to a mechanics shop and tell them you want a new wheel bearing pressed in. or to be even more cost efficient buy your own wheel bearing and take the hub+ the new wheel bearing to a mechanic and tell them you want the new bearing pressed in.
