Default EG Civic just dies... really strange.

So i have been helping my cousin with his EG. Just to give you history, the car is an EX, was swapped with a B18C1, got stolen, he bought a Z6 to put back in it and that's where it's at right now.

So the car runs great, idles fine, no problems, no CEL, nada...

then as it's idling it just shuts off like it's on a timer. I can't figure out what is happening but the car just shuts off and then it turns over and sometimes even starts right back up. Then runs for awhile and shuts off again.

thoughts?

Not saying anything bad but what about gas? bad? low? water? Did you check fuel pressures?

All fluids were replaced and refilled. If it was bad or old gas I would think it would run rough but while its running it runs great. You can drive it around but after a certain amount of time it shuts off.

it could be a distributor that going bad try replacing it, but it could also mean that either the engine needs oil or that a piston is no good.

What about possibly overheating? Do you have a good temp gauge?

I thought it was temp maybe too, gauge doesn't go above half, stays where it normally should... its like the engine knows something is wrong so it just shuts off, but no codes...?

If a piston is going bad your car tends to shut off after a while. The car will usually turn off when your idleing.

Happen to look at the fan to see if it's kicking on? Overheating would def do that! Possible that you may have the wrong wiring to the ect? Do you have a temp gun to varify?

Ok I will try to follow you but let me ask how does a piston START TO GO BAD? I thought they were bad or they were good no inbetween. Rings can start to go bad pistons not sure about that. But would love to learn if i'm wrong!

Also if your run a car will little oil for a long time the pistons will fry resulting in a car that starts but will turn off after a while.

????? Moving on!

Johnny I would def look into temp situation!

When the car dies does it sputter on it's face before it quits like it's trying to fix it's self or just running great idling great and then it's just like you turn the key off?
