im thinking about turboing my b18a1. im only wanting 250whp but i dont wanna run alot of boost. what turbo should i go with i was thinking about
gt25, gt30, gt35? which would work best for my setup. ill be running hondata s300 p28 ecu. oh and im gonna be getting thicker head gasket for lower compression ill be running 8:1 comp.

 

Here is my honest opinion on what you said:

-gt35 is way too big for you
-ls has low revs so stick with a smaller turbo to make use of faster spool times
-ditch the thicker headgasket
-8:1 compression is way too low and bottom end power will suffer
-it's an ls with a stock 9.0:1 compression, leave it alone

Read this article so youll see what else you really should do when you wanna turbo a car, its not just as easy as slaping it in theres alot more youll need to consider especially if you want to go to 250 and not kill your motor

yeah i know theres more than just slapping it on lol. like i said im running a s300 p28 ecu so im getting her tuned. and i dont wanna build a ls motor for only 250hp. if i built it i would shoot for like 400whp. but thanks i think i might run a gt30.

 

i would do a t3/t4 or smaller setup cause if you want only 250 i would go smaller besides youll spool faster

 

^^ gotta agree, id run something like t3/t4 just my opinion an from personal experiance. im currnty torn between a n/a b16 build, n/a LS-v build o LS boosted or LS n/a and worse part is i have a block and head for which ever route i choose so it's making this decision much harder.lol
but def keep us posted on what you decide and how it comes out. g/l with the build.

 

i run a garrett 57 trim and made 407 at 15lbs on a bone stock gsr, spools super quick and you would only need to run about 5-7 pounds to reach your goal. just make sure you get a good tune. and if you ever wanted to make more power it's there instead of getting something super small that you would have to upgrade later. i've daily driven mine for 2 years and 3 track days with no problems.

 

^^ wow talk about succes 407 on a stock motor, great job must have a very decent tune. you might have just changed my build plans.lol. just curious though.. roughly what rpm do you make/spool full boost with that 57 trim??

 

For your first setup, build something simple.

Your goals don't require an extravagent or expensive turbo. Something like a 50 trim would work just fine for your power goals. As for tuning, options like Crome will work just as well as an S200 (provided you dont plan on using the additional options offered by the Hondata system). Finally, the compression on your stock LS is just fine as is. The addition of a thicker headgasket is only going to make your car slower out of boost. It will do nothing by way of additional safety from problems. With your goals, pump gas will be just fine on stock (or even higher) compression.

Before moving forward with this setup, you should take a peek at the Forced Induction forum...especially the FAQ. I feel like you're not entirely versed on turbo setups which is why you're planning to spend a bit carelessly.

 

back in 07 ive turbocharged my h22a honda civic. i used a t3/t4 setup with tial wastgate and ssqv bov. im using a p72 ecu with s300. 660 presicion turbo injectors. and i had a performance shop in stevens point wisconsin do the tune and it made 317whp 246lb tq at 10psi and it didnt last a year before my rings where shot!!! i blew oil like a diesel. so i know what im trying to do with my ls. i have a way better performance shop now to do my tune so im not too afraid now. the problem was that shop did a shitty tune!

 

but with my ls b18a1 im gonna run a gt25 garret turbo. its like 50 trim so i think that should work well plus its a internal wastegate setup so i can save money there. it goes to 14psi so i think i should be able to make my quota with that turbo. the shop says i can run h22 injectors for the setup. and hondata 4 bar map sensor. and p28 ecu s200 obd0-obd1 conversion harness. im hopefully buying a y1 trans with lsd from a guy i know so i should cook on the strip. manual boost controller and autometer boost gauge. morosco oilpan with bung for oil return line. and t fiting on my oil sensor for oil to the turbo. and he said my stock fuel pump should be fine for my setup for now till i wanna make more power. ssqv bov. vibrant intercooler piping and intercooler.

 

With what this shop said, i would find another. Stock H22 injectors and a stock fuel pump will safely allow you to make 180whp, but not a pony more. If you don't mind, i would like to move this thread to Forced Induction to see what they think about it...

OP what GT28 will you be using?

 

bassically what you really want to do is make sure you get a good tune,someone who knows there ****. again i strongly recomend a t3/t4 setup but... it is YOUR car and YOU do what you want to just please what ever you do.... research for a good tune shop it will save you alot of headaches and research period.
