Default iacv... yes another thread.

97 ex stock d16y8. ive cleaned the iacv and it did not fix the problem. i took the intake off today and covered the whole for the iacv and surprisingly that worked. this means i need a new one right? or if anyone has another suggestion it would be greatly appreciated.

Wait, what's the problem? High idle? Jumpy idle?

it will surge up from like 1200 to 2000 real quick and then drop down and repeat.

Do you have any vacuum leaks or a vacuum hose that may have come off? I cleaning the IACV didn't work, maybe it does have to be replaced, I'm not sure though.

check for vacuum leak, easy way to do it is take off intake and cover tb with ur hand and engine should die, if it dont there is a vacuum leak, also check base idle

do the car have an fitv? if so you need to clean and tighten it
https://honda-tech.com/forums/acura-integra-6/%2A%2A%2A-how-%2A%2A%2A-clean-your-fitv-aka-fast-idle-thermo-valve-1564019/

if not then you can test the iacv but warming the car up and unplugging it. the idle should drop (car will almost stall). if idle does not drop then the iacv is not functioning properly. this could be wiring or the part itself.

okay covering up the intake did not kill the engine. it dropped to maybe like 200 rpms but it was still running. now the hard part, how do i find this apparent vacuum leak?

get a can of brake clean or carb cleaner and spray around where the intake mani bolts up to the head and around the throttle body gasket and idle speed should change and check all vacuum hoses for cracks and leaks. also take off the vacuum hose going to the pcv valve if see if the idle speed changes if it dont then replace the pcv valve

i was going to do the service manual test for the pcv, pinching the hose and listening for a clicking sound, but as i went to pinch it i noticed that the hose had already pulled it self together from the vacuum pressure. does this indicate a bad pcv?

maybe if the pcv is worn and pulling more vacuum than usaul or just the wrong type of hose was used it should be a reinforced rubber hose
