throwing code 3 and 7, map and tps
obd1 b18c1,
Both plugged in correctly.
It'll usually go 1 of 3 ways.
No code and run perfect
No code and be really jerky
TPS and MAP sensor code and run like crap...
It all started with little jerks when it was warmed up, so I finally pin pointed it to the TPS sensor, it could never get into calibration specs, with 2 different TPS. So I just unplugged it letting it run through the MAP sensor. Killed the Jerking motions. Then I drove it around like that for a month, having no time to fix it.(Going to college, can't afford the closer parking pass so I don't want to walk so far to my car) Finally, I swear the hour before I'm headed home on a 6 hour trip, it acts retarded as ****. It'll die out on idle every now and then, will lose engine power all of the sudden then regain power. Jerks. So I check the code and it's throwing both 3 and 7. So I'm like maybe it's backwards, at this point only the MAP is plugged in. So I try the other on the Map sensor, doesn't fix it. Then I plug in both MAP and TPS correctly and it still threw the codes. I then just unplugged the TPS and just manned it home. I finally got home and swapped out the map sensor, the code still popped up. So I'm thinking it's something to do with the harness. Today, I had my TPS unplugged, and it just died in the middle of the street, the honks were amazing, it wouldn't start up( it would start up for a second and then die). Then I went to plug in the TPS and then it started, was a little jerky and would lose engine power but was enough to get me home.
I don't know if its in my head, but I think when I turn my car off and turn it on enough times, I'll get lucky and have it run perfectly for awhile.

I tried switching them around, still threw the codes, and threw them because its not on right. So I switched them back.
I went out this morning and I check the voltage into the map and tps, read exactly 5.01 volts. I was able to calibrate the TPS perfectly with the motor cold. My Air filter is halfway clogged? That may be throwing my MAP sensor out of wack. I'll drive it some more and see if the problem persists only when the motor is warm.

Alright, So I think I fixed the problem.
Drum Roll.!!!
Clogged air filter, ran the car after taking off my air filter and it ran perfect! I'll give an update if it doesn't work.

I have seen similar problems in fuel injected cars that have slightly bad gas in the tank. Where it will run fine after sitting but after you slosh the tank around and mix the gas back up with let's say a little water you have in the tank the car starts to act up again. This is on the theory of the fuel and gas seperate after sitting. Though the hole in that theory is that the water would seperate on the bottom of gas. So it might be diesel cause I am sure that will seperate from the gasoline to the top of the tank. But then again this is all theory on I car I can't see or smell lol.
Cliff notes: check fuel and if you can try another engine harness. Mice like to chew on wires.

Later down the road, the tps stopped throwing the code, and the map kept on coming on every once in awhile. Ended up being my map sensor plug, on the harness side.
