Icon7 looking for decent coilovers for my eg hatch for under $600..possible?

Hey guys, kinda new to this board...have a lot of things I wanna do to my 92 hatch this spring...the winter has taken it's toll on the poor girl. First off though, my shocks are shot because the previous owner just cut the springs to lower it and so my ride sucks to say the least. Feels as if every crack in the road is shaking my car apart bump by bump. Getting to the point where I hate driving it.

Anyways, I just wanted to know if there was any decent coilover kits for under 5 or 600 dollars on ebay or anywhere. Through reading through many of your posts I'm given to understand that there are plenty of cheapo "get what you pay for" type components offered through ebay but if perhaps anyone could offer me any expertise on any of the deals I'm seeing...ie - EMUSA, Godspeed, skunk 2 pro...etc. My mechanic said he could get KYB not-adjustable shocks for 400 and about 200 labour but then I'd need springs as well and then they aren't able to adjust for next winter.

anyways, any help would be appreciated, anything would be better than this...

ksports are by far teh best and most adjustable coilovers in that price range they are a bit more but they are 36 way adjustable for around 750

Hey luder,

So is the function and form F2 a decent set? I can grab them for about 800 shipped to Toronto, Canada where I'm from. Thanks guys. I wish I could spend more but I need to get new wheels, fix my damned cracked side skirts and repair a cv joint all in the next few months...so right now I need a quick fix.

sorry to be the first one to say this but, you need to de-rice or de-bean your ride. has potential, but wayy too much body kit.

Really?

I'd have to agree with the regards to the back bumper...I'm over that and I think that a stock bumper painted Laguna Seca Blue to match would be better...but I'm kinda torn about the front bumper, toying with the idea of an OEM style front bumper with a carbon fiber lip. Clean looking. I like the seamless sides though, they aren't going anywhere. I really like the cars' look aside from the rear bumper, but I appreciate the opinions though.

Anyways, as far as coilovers go, the general opinion seems to be that i should wait and spend more if going with coilovers...not happy to hear that but what are my options then? Getting the KYB shocks for 100 bucks/each and getting lowering springs that'll match up right? If I just throw new shocks on my cut springs won't they just be shot in a few months due to the improper absorbtion from the crappy cut stock springs? Anyways, thanks again guys...I'm no expert.

Cheap coilovers? No.

I know a lot of people run the omnis, F&Fs, and ksports with no problems. I also know that a lot of people have horror stories about them. I wouldn't personally buy any full coilover that cheap. I just don't trust them. I've seen pictures of them snapped. I know lots of people run them, but I don't trust them.

Rather, I'd seriously advise buying high quality shocks and lowering springs rather than cheap coilovers.

For $500, you can get Koni Reds and Eibach Sportlines. You'll have some damping adjustability, but not on the fly. Ride and handling are excellent, and both shocks and springs have a lifetime warranty. This is the setup I have.

For $600, you can get Koni Reds and Ground controls. You'll still have height adjustability, and some damping adjustment. Again, great ride, and lifetime warranty.

For $700, you can get Koni Yellows and Ground Controls. Now, you'll have height adjustability, on-the-fly damping adjustment, great ride, and lifetime warranty. Why would you get Chinese coilovers when you can get adjustable Konis and Eibachs for cheaper?

My $.02. I know people will disagree.

in all reality if you get a good set of springs and some skunk2 or ground control coilovers your ride would be a thousand times better especially sence your on a budget everyone says buy the best now but thats not always practical ya know but i say start with a good set of shocks tokiko ground control and if you have to go egay ive seen first hand that sometimes you get really good quality springs and other times you dont but either way you will be better off then were your at now

If you want non-adjustible coil-overs then you can find them in that price range (just assuming you want quality). But that would screw you if your region recieved snow in the winter. You should definately get that lip kit off there if you want to adjust it, it is kinda like ladies lifting up their skirt or dress to go up stairs - it just looks silly. Save some money for decent coil-overs. Mine were about 800 not including labor and they are adjustible from the ground to stock hieght.

Thanks for the help guys..think I might just with decent shocks and find some good lowering springs. Wont be able to adjust but I don't think I'll drive that car next winter anyhow...too much of a headache in other ways too...just seems to kill that kind of car...paint etc.

im running skunk2 coilovers on tokico illuminas. dont realy have any complaints about the set up. its nice for daily driving. i rarely track my car, but when i have, they seem to work nice. im saving up to upgrade to a better set up though for when i decide to retire it from daily driven status and make it my weekend toy`

I know this thread is a couple months old, but I am having a hard time understanding/finding this particular setup at this price. eBay has the Koni Yellows at $666 shipped and the Ground Control setup that I found for an EG hatch on eBay are priced at $344 shipped and they specifically list that they won't fit the Koni Yellows. That sounds a whole lot like $1000+ and nowhere near cheaper than $600.

I'd love to get my hands on this same setup for $700 like you stated so if you can enlighten me I would appreciate it. I bought my car dropped on some crap suspension components and am looking forward to replacing them for good quality/performing parts.

Ksports are cheap Taiwanese crap. Their shafts rust and there threads and finish corrode, they don't even warranty their product if this happens. They market and sell their products for race but don't honor their warranty on their products if used for such applications.

If they do accept the claim you have to pay for shipping both ways and they don't just replace one they make you buy the other unit in the pair.

I recommend the OP to get a set of either Skunk2 or Ground control sleeve overs with the spring rate of their choice and Tokico Illumina's though you won't hit your budget.

Sorry to say this if you can't afford the parts you may want to think about another hobby.

i'd go with ground control coils and tokico illumina struts.

search ebay and the classifieds here - there are deals to be had. i got a new set of gc's and illuminas for a vw of mine for $350 shipped on ebay - saved $500 easily...

just search around.

or, get a decent but not slammed set of springs and some bilstein sport or koni d spec struts... no height adjustability, but will ride great.
