B20VTEC ANY GOOD?
I want know if any1 out there has a b20v dont matter what head bolts ons cams or not. but the regular lower compression block i believe its like 8.8:1 c.r since they are cheaper than the higher compression blocks. are they pretty quick i know torque will be good but hows the top end? some people say do that & tune it, others say there weak that a b16 will smoke that setup. is this true? i know of street racers with b20s but i dont know what blocks cause i dont really know them & you know how it is out when know1 tells you what they got & its kool. just any info would be nice cause i want to go this route.
ok good but will a stock block hold up @ high rpms? all i wanna do to it is ctr intake cam i.m t.b good bolt ons & good fuel i got a hondata s300 p28 that my friends holding for me when im ready for a swap. will this setup pull my ef hatch?
a stock block will NOT hold up to high rpm's. it is as you said, stock. if it's a b20b keep it below 6500rpm. if it's a b20z then below 7k. some people have gone a little higher, but do you want to temp fate? if you do find yourself revving it considerably past the blocks original redline, on even a remotely consistent basis, then don't be suprised when it blows its guts all over the asphalt.
They're just benchracing and whatever, but theoretically the b16 shouldn't win.
This.
The long stroke from the b20 isn't exactly the best thing to be doing 9,000rpm.

good spoken words. what is that wont hang tho, is the rods? if this is the case then ill just go b16 with a 55 shot. i need a reliable car i got a heavy foot & i like to eat up gas like water if you catch my drift. i got the $$ to build it right but im just looking to a swap asap.
well theres a usdm b18c1 @ the local junkyard its all complete axles ecu linkage the works. but the thing is i dont wanna go hydro. the guy says he wants 2000 for everything i know thats super cheap right? ill see if he will sell it without the tranny cause isnt hydro kind of a pain? if not then what would i need besides the hydro mount? heard ill need an acuator but how does that work? would be nice to get that swap cause i can bar too.
personal experience with b20vtecs
1st off. my brothers b20vtec. 96 block and 99 head. all stock with stock bolt on. his crx ran 12.6 best time. tuning is important. he took that setup out his crx and sold that. bought a wagon and swapped it in there. wago went 14.0 with everything the same. its been 6 years daily'd and raced to 8k. motor is still running great..wagon is sent to the junkyard. motor is now in my cousins EF sedan and the motor is still running healty.
i had a b20vtec. my sedan went 13.6 best time. it lasted me awhile til i hit a train track, drove 4 miles without knowing i had on oil and it spun a bearing. was taking to 8k as well.
i had built another b20vtec for my cousin and that motor pulls really hard and is still running today (1 year)
i just recently teach my little cousin to do a b20vtec and motor finally started today.
honestly, i would choose b20vtec over any swap (talking realistically cause i cannot afford a K) great power, great torque.
if i had knew before i would have done new water pump/oil pump/tensior/timing belt/ARp rod bolts and some race bearings. ill be sure to do all that for my b20vtec on the side
maintain it like you would every other cars and it will last.
