So I installed an alarm in my car and everything was working fine, but afterour heavy rains today, my siren doesnt chirp anymore. It doesnt chirp when I arm or disarm or when I open a door and set the alarm off. Also, the alarm siren itself is very quite when it does go off. Can barely hear it even from outside the vehicle. Im guessing it has to do with the rain. Has anyone had this happen before? It is temporary, as in it will fix itself when it dries out? Should I relocate the siren higher up in the bay? Thanks all.

 

its most likely where the installer grounded the siren..
look at the two wires that lead to the siren...
one should go inside to your alarm and one should be grounded to your chassis (usually designated with a black wire...) it may be frayed, loose, rusted or whatever...
it could even be the siren itself but i doubt it...
that or it could be the alarm siren output...

 

You could test the siren output by disconnecting the siren and then using a volt meter to check the voltage going to the siren. If the voltage is good ( I couldn't tell you what it is supposed to be, probably 5 or 10v or something like that).
Otherwise check the ground and if the siren is wet, let it dry out.

 

Well I installed the siren myself and the ground is in the cabin so I dont think thatwould be an issue. The ground for the siren is attached to the ground for the alarm itself and the alarm still works so im thinking the siren is just wet inside. Any thoughts on protecting the siren from this happening again other than re-locating it? I mean obviously I cant cover it completely from the bottom as it will muffle the output. Thoughts?

 

so is it mounted firing down? if it is mount it higher if it is low. hopefully it is not too low where it can have the wires cut from underneath by a would be thief.

 

It is mounted pointing down, but I think it may be a bit low and a bit too accessible by thieves from underneath. I think I simply got too much splash into it. Im going to relocate it tomorrow but anyone have experience with this to know if it will dry out and work again? Thanks.

 

Were did you mount the siren?

 

If you want to make it louder you can always cut the looped wires on the back of the siren (depending on what siren you have, some dont have the wires). It may be illegal in your city tho cause of it being noise pollution or whatever. I did it to my 2 horns and it did alot lol

 

I mounted it down on the frame sort of below the battery. Its a bit low.

 

A common problem with siren that are mounted pointing down, is the inner cone will fill up with water, shorting out the siren.

The fix is to not point it down, [or up] or drill a small hole, [1/8"] in the end of the inner cone.

This should be done ASAP or there will be permanent damage to siren.

Although the above may not be the problem, it is so common, it is the first thing I would look for. 94

Well I got it working again and I relocated it where it wont get wet as well as it is well hidden from sneaking eyes. Thank you everyone who helped me out!
