Front suspension thumping noise
First all would like to thanks those who assisted in my last post...MY sparkplugs were wet on the 3rd and 4th ..
I have this annoying noise (thump/bump noise) when i go over a pothole/or any kind or bump, and i hear a thumping sound. I was told it might be the sway bay end links, i checked and was told if it has play then it needs to be replaced. I did that and i still here a thumping noise.. It annoying especially the fact that i cant figure out where this noise is coming from. I changed the upper ball joint as well and still.. Anyone know where this noise can be coming from?? Theses are some suggestions i have heard:
1) control arm (when i removed the nut from the upper ball joint, the arms swings down., my brother says that the control arm when removing the nut from upper ball joint must stay level and not swing down)
2) bushing where sway bar connects to chassis
Thanks if anyone can help me, i just spent money on what i thiought or was told might be the problem and i still hear a noise
I have a 1998 honda accord lx

its kinda hard to just say what it is just off a description and w/o actually being there to see and hear the noise...
but just based on your description, im gonna have to agree w/ your brother.
the front upper control arm shouldn't swing freely when the upper ball joint is removed.
that or either a bolwn strut will make noise...
figure out which side is making the noise and have your brother or someone push down on the fender w/ you try to pin point the noise

I had something similar.
It was comming from 2) bushing where sway bar connects to chassis
They were worn out. I got new bushings and bolts for the brakets. Watch out when unbloting them. Add a lot of WD40 (Liquid wrench better) and make 1-2 turns add WD 40 1-2 turn back, 3-4 turns forward... If it is rusty you may brake it. The noise stopped after the replacement.
It might be also a mix of other things added together but the worn bushings was the main reason in my case.

The radius rod connects to the lower control arm, and the frame just under the radiator. So remove the mud guard under the front of the car, and you will be able to see radius rods. You can check the front bushing by removing the bolt on the end of the radius rod, but you would have to remove the whole radius rod to check the rear bushing.
The bushings will probably look just fine, but if they are bad, you can compare them to some new ones and they will be shorter. I got the whole set, 2 pairs, from Carquest for $35 so it wasn't too much.
