For those who have had their R stolen...
I am curious to know what I should expect from the insurance company at this point... I understand I'm not going to get any money for all the after market parts, but I do want to make sure I don't get completely low balled.
Please post when your theft occurred (year), insurance company used and how much they paid out. This will help me get a fair medium.
Thanks guys.

My ITR was stolen about 3 years ago. This was an R I had rebuilt and had a salvaged title. Despite the title of the car I had a lot of money into this build. The insurance company only wanted to pay me around $8000 at first because that was "fair market value." I fought with them for months trying to get the most I could. I provided receipts of all the OE parts I had to buy to get the car up and running, pictures and ads of other ITRs forsale. Don't accept their first offer. Fight with them. I went up to the point of where we almost went to court before settling. I ended up getting $11,200 and this was through Mercury Insurance. Out of all the cars I've had that somone could have taken this had to be the worst one for me. I'm just glad I got something back for it.
hey keith my friend in nc had his 00 si stolen last year he got 16,xxx for the car they gave hime 11,xxx for the car and 5,xxx for all the after market parts he had pics of the car and all the receipts of the parts. he had accessory insurance he said for all the aftermarket parts. and it had low milelage. but he kept arguing with the insurace back and fourth for awhile though.
Jackson, would you mind contributing to The Graveyard post please?
Thx,
- Jon

maaan! The more and more I read, the more I fear that they are going to come back with ridiculous sum. I really hope I don't have to fight to get a decent amount. Sick to my stomach...
Guess I should of learned when my GSR was stolen not to stay in the Honda scene. Whoever took this car really hit close to home this time. So much blood, sweat and tears into this thing. I really hope whatever sh!tbox Honda they put my stuff on catches fire, singes their eyes and they live the rest of their lives with third degree burns throughout their body.

It'll make you cry. I personally don't like looking at it.
OP, best of luck with this and like everybody said fight the living hell out of it. My insurance company (USAA) said they'd do fair market value and try to meet in the middle on parts, but these parts need receipts and that's the tricky part sometimes.

Jon D,
I'll search for that graveyard thread and contribute.
Yes, because the market for salvaged ITRs is obviously a lot less than a clean titled one. Though I can see the value of cleanly built, salvaged ITRs going up as the number of clean, clear titled Rs goes down.
Looking at that graveyard thread and what people got from insurance, most people got hosed.
I had a 99 GSR stolen from me in January 2009. It was high mileage but had many many mods and I had receipts and pictures of EVERYTHING. The mods were covered and they did add to the value of the car. State Farm hired a specialty vehicle appraisal company to value my car. Their first offer was about $13,500 including sales tax for that car. And it wasn't even an R. They said "This is what it would cost to go and re-purchase a similar vehicle today."
I'd say the best thing to do is have receipts and pictures documenting the mods and uniqueness of the caR. Have for sale listings showing price, etc.

Agreed. Mine was stolen about 5 years ago. The insurance company wanted to settle for something dumb, I can remember, but in my insurance policy I had the option to ask for a third party appraiser. He took all my parts, which I had receipts for all the major parts (JDM Front End, Recaros, Header, Exhaust, etc) and the came back with a much better offer. To the tune of $7000 over what the insurance company originally offered. They will look at what other Type R's are going for more than anything really. They will use Autotrader, eBay, Cars.com and the like to find comparable prices.
Pictures and receipts can only help your case. And don't expect it to be a speedy process, expect at least 3-5 months to get paid out.
I got paid about 23,000 for my ITR, but like I said, that was almost 5 years ago when they were newer.
Good luck with the f**kin insurance companies. They suck major ***.
