State Ref tickets and Registration question!!!
Here is a scenario i get different answers from depending on who i talk to. So if anyone has gone through this Recently please chime in.
My question is if i decide to just pay the fine when i get the letter from the court with the fine amount does that mean i pay the fine and im good to go, and i can register the car when it's due for new registration?
Or if i don't get the state ref to sign the car off, the courthouse will send the paperwork to the DMV and i will not be able to register the car in my name till it gets a state ref inspection and passes? i know the car can be sold off to another person and they can register it but i don't want that hassle, id like to pay the fine and register it myself if need be.
Thanks

When I got my ref ticket the judge would NOT let me pay the fine, he told me I had to fix the problem. Also I watched another kid in court who brought in a bill of sale and said that he did not have the car anymore and that he had sold it, and the judge told him to bad, go track down the car and fix the problem and come back with proof. But I guess it all depends on which judge you get. Also even after I fixed the problem ( took me a long *** time because I had a tiny exhaust leak that was preventing me from passing the sniffer test) the judge stuck me with the $400 fine, even after getting the problem writen off by the ref. But like I said, it all depends on which judge you get, ive had buddies just pay the fine and good to go, but not in my case, lol.
When this happened to me like a year or two ago I went and saw the judge and he asked me if I had fixed the citations and I said NO, so he told me that I would have to pay like a $300 fine and that I should try and fix the problem ASAP. I've never taken it to ref and am still able to register my car, no problems.
when it happened to me, i just showed them an old smog printout and a bill of sale from a new motor. that was after they tried to fine me $1750.. then they brought it down to $475.
thanks state of california.

i got one, and i just wait til it close to the due date then when to court and pay for it. yet the lady told me i got to go ref and get it sign off first, i told her i did went and they told me to come here and pay the fine ( but i never went anyway just said it !!) she turn around and talk to someone and come back and told me it gonna be either 400 or 600 something i forgot cause that was like 5yrs ago..... and it all clear lucky me i guess!!!!!
