State Ref tickets and Registration question!!!
Here is a scenario i get different answers from depending on who i talk to. So if anyone has gone through this Recently please chime in.
My question is if i decide to just pay the fine when i get the letter from the court with the fine amount does that mean i pay the fine and im good to go, and i can register the car when it's due for new registration?
Or if i don't get the state ref to sign the car off, the courthouse will send the paperwork to the DMV and i will not be able to register the car in my name till it gets a state ref inspection and passes? i know the car can be sold off to another person and they can register it but i don't want that hassle, id like to pay the fine and register it myself if need be.
Thanks

you can pay the ticket and go on ur merry way nothing gets reported to dmv. its just that every time you get another ref ticket it doubles.

This is exactly what i have heard from others but there are also those who say you can not register your car.
Do you have First hand experience with this and have paid the fine and registered the car when it was due or is it just here say?
thanks

pay and youre good to go. dont even have to go to ref. but if you do decide to go to ref youre technically not suppose to drive the car till it passes. and obviously you cant register a car with unpaid tickets.

Re: State Ref tickets and Registration question!!!
i have had 5 state ref tickets within the past 3 years with the same car (EK hatch with a k20a2). 2 in elk grove/sacramento and 3 in San Jose. fines were between $350-$390 each time, never doubled, and have no problems registering the car (registered last week)

350-390, thats cheap..i'd rather pay it off.
my buddie got ref for an FPR and that **** was almost 600..my other friend got ref for an N1 exhaust (and not for the turbo ) and that was almost 600..SJ.

you can pay the fine without corrections and then everything will be cleared.. you will be able to register your car after that as long as you can get it to pass smog and stuff.. i went through this three times..

Re: State Ref tickets and Registration question!!!
From my ref expierience, I went to the Ref station at the Alameda college and had nothing but good praise for the people there. Really helped me out. Then again, I got reffed for my Exhaust and Header on my 2GNT DSM. They did check CARB numbers for my intake and I changed my header to stock and got a GST axleback for the smog. Its not bad as you pay only 7 dollars for the smog and is good for 90 days as well.
Now for those that can't pass visual, this route probably wouldn't work.
Now if all you need to do is change back to stock to pass visual and the smog sniffer, it really isn't too bad. Just figure that 7 dollars is better than paying for a fine if you can pass visual and sniffer with CARB parts or stock.
Also I believe if you are nailed for a loud exhaust, all they have to do is measure the DB level outside at an angle of I believe 50 feet.
When you to the ref, make sure you raise your car up as it will be going on a ramped up dyno. I had to pull my bumper off outside the station because it wouldn't clear the ramp
In traffic court, having a State ref smog will greatly decrease the price you'll have to pay. My fine when I was in court that day went from 600 dollars down to 50 after the judge saw that I had passed the State ref check.
Hope this helps you a bit.

Re: State Ref tickets and Registration question!!!
im having sort of the same issue.. but im just wondering how much do i have to pay the court when i correct it.. i was cited for a blow off valve and not the turbo kit...
i took it all off cuz i didnt feel like paying $700... i was also cited for non correctalbe front tints and correctable air horn...
how much am i looking to pay at the courts... i passed state ref, and got my horn signed off and my window is back to stock... but still cant be signed off...
