Re: insurance question
No, do not get and pay a lawyer if you have insurance for the accident. There is a portion of your insurance called Liability that is for paying damages to others when you allegedly owe them. Your insurance policy promises to pay the damages AND the defense that you legally owe. By defense, that means lawyers.
Call your insurance company first and let them know you got the papers and that you expect them to handle the matter. That is why you pay them. Do not be pulling $$ out of your pocket on this when you do not have to. Now if you had no insurance, your policy limits for paying damages are already blown, etc., then an attorney is an option. Otherwise, let your company handle it.
Lots of insurance ignorance, and I do not say that in a demeaning way-people just do not know better, floating around. You can thank the TV lawyers for this. You do not need a lawyer if you are insured. They pay for it. Call them first.
