My friend just told me that she thinks that she might have blown the head gasket on her car,she said some mechanic did a compression test and she got a 120 but she doesn't really know a lot about her car,so were gonna go do another test later,what is the compression suppose to be on all 4 cylinders?

 

I think 240 is what its suppose to be around. But if she says 120, something is definitely wrong.

if any of the cylinders are at 120PSI, somethings horridly wrong.. even if its uniformly 120PSI across there is something wrong (assuming the comp tester is accurate)

could be a number of things, just to list a few:
blown headgasket, bent valves, piston rings failure, scores in the cylinder walls, and so on and so forth. pick your poison ! good luck with the repairs

 

Head gasket, valves, piston rings, scores....all of these shouldn't affect all 4 cylinders at once.

While the number is pretty low, I suspect the person who made the test, or the gage.

I should be pretty obvious performance wise.

Is it burning a lot of oil, or making smoke ?

 

she says that it doesn't smoke,just heats up really fast,i asked her to check the oil but shes says that its not milky or weird.

 

Maybe I read the post wrong, I wasn't saying "if you have 120psi all across, then these are the reasons" I was merely stating the possible reasons for any 120psi reading whether it be across, in 2 cylinders, or in a single cylinder.
