NEED HELP!!!! (having problem removing axel)
I am trying to take the half shaft out of the hub, it is stuck in the though, ive been pounding at the axel bolt but it wont come out, i have also tried prying it out of the hub but that wont work... ANY IDEAS!!! PLEASE
Sorry man sometimes it just gets baked in there. I had to take my whole spindel with upper arm, rotor & axle to a shop and they had to heat the guy up with oxy-acetelyne.. Not too friendly on the bearings however but it was my last resort.
Well first off, try soaking the opening to the splined section from the other side with release all or some sort of nonflammable liquid wrench product. If it still doesn't budge, then you can get your torch out and start heating it up as hot as you can and then try again. If that still doesn't work, keep spraying the liquid wrench stuff on, heat it up and then spray it with cold water. The rapid heating & expanding sometimes does the trick.
Good luck.
Good luck.
by the way, I hope you're not just trying to hit it as is without it connected to the tie rods or anything. You need to bang that thing out pretty good when it gets stuck, so I recommend either getting some suicidal guy to hold it or mount it back up to the tie rod to get some sort of support.

If you keep beating the nut you are either going to mess up the threads or moshroom the end of the shaft. Remove the entire hub/shaft assy and use a hydraulic press to break the shaft loose.
I'm in the middle of all this myself too so I feel your pain. Took me a week of cursing and bashing to get both my axles out and in the process I managed to:
1. mushroom 5 or 6 wheel studs.
2. mushroom both lower ball joints.
3. tear both ball joint boots.
wheel studs run $3 each, ball joints $20, ball joint boots $3.
my advice...take your time and watch where you're swinging that sledgehammer....

I've never done this before so I'm just guessing.. but a slide hammer doesn't work in this application?

Use a grinder to clean up the mushroomed part. If you mushroomed 3 or less threads the shaft is still usable. After cleaning up the mushroomed part use a hydraulic press (machine shop) to remove the shaft. After the shaft has been removed use a thread file to clean up the threads. When you re-install the shaft add some of grease to the splines of the shaft and hub. I did this for a friend a year ago because he didn't want to buy a new shafts after he atomic bomb mushroomed the ends of his shafts. He has been using these cleaned up thread shafts since last ummer with no problems.
When I took my axles out, the passenger side was easy. I broke the bolt that holds the hub together, undid the upper A-arm, took the shock fork out and then pried with a huge screw driver....poped right out. Other side was a little tougher. I had a friend help me because I didnt know there was a mount on the carrier bearing that bolted to the block. I hope I helped a little
