lowerball joint/ tranny problem same time?

Default lowerball joint/ tranny problem same time?

my lower ball joint just broke on the pass side....simple fix i believe. well also as i jacked it up i noticed that my car is going in and out of gear without the use of my clutch and idles in gear like it is in netrual also the speedometer goes up to like 25 mph in gear. It sounds/feels like reverse and 5th are the only gears that ingauge and makes the tranny wine and gind i believe? but still no movment any clue what happend and how these happend at the same time?

Your axle probably fell out when the ball joint broke.

5th and Reverse are one unit. So if 5th goes out then reverse will follow.

Agrees with slomofo if the axle fell out on one side then it doesnt have any resistance aganst the clutch.

If reverse rotated forward and were the same unit as 5th, your 4th to 5th gear shifts would look something like this:
