Default Tbelt issues

Hey I was wondering if any one has tips for installing a timeing belt. I installed the tbelt on my b18a motor, but it seems like there is too much slack at TDC. The cams are lined up, at least the two markings on each cam gear are in line and pistons 1 and 4 are at TDC. Take a look at the pics and let me know what you think, Ive cranked the motor over by hand several times and the belt hasnt skiped, but I donno if it would skip when the engines running.

It looks like there is a lot of slack between the cam gears. Did you retension it properly using the tensioner?

too much slack, there. turn the assembly 3 teeth forward from TDC, loosen and re-tighten the tensioner, and you should be good.

Hmm ok try that. Im kind of confused on how the tensioner could remove the slack. By tightening the bolt you keep the tensior from losening, but it doesnt put more tension on the belt. Anyway il try it thanks guys!

You need to manually pry the tensioner up with a screw driver or pry bar, or stick a metal hanger in the tension hole where the spring normally goes into and pull up on the tensioner, then tighten the bolt.

rotating the assembly the 3 teeth tightens the belt between the cam gears and between the exhaust cam gear and the crank pulley. all the slack moves between the crank pulley and the intake cam gear, so when you loosen the tensioner bolt and tighten it again, it is able to eliminate the slack.

this wasn't necessary for me using a brand new tensioner and spring.
