Added Cam Gears Now Timing Belt is Loose
I added some cam gears marked my timing belt and even put marking on my old cams to do the same to the new cams. I start the car today first time since cam gears were one and the car was idling fine and acelerating fine then I go to the front of the motor to find that the belt looked pretty loose. Shut it off sure enough the exhaust side was way too loose then normal. The intake side is nice and tight. How do I go about to make this slack go away I try to tighten the tensioner but it aint budgin so I loosened it and that pretty much where im at now .
So what do I need to do next?
Specs:99 Gsr motor
Cliffs: Removed old cam gears , threw new ones on and now timing belt is loose on exhaust side and tight on other.

Did you touch the tensioner when you installed the gears?
If not then either:
A. The cam gears are literally smaller than stock and thus the belt is looser
B. The belt was that loose before the gear install
You can loosen the tensioner bolt and take a coat hanger and manipulate/bend it to allow you to pull on the tensioner to take some slack out of the belt, and while you've got tension on the tensioner itself wih the coat hanger than tighten the bolt. Sometimes the spring for the tensioner just doesn't apply enough pressure to properly tension the belt.

You need to put a wrench on the crank bolt and turn it about 3 degrees counter-clockwise to put the slack on the side of the belt that has the tensioner with the tensioner loosened.
One side of the belt goes straight from the cam gears to the crank, you want this side tight and the slack on the other.
Then tighten the tensioner.
I would check the size of the cam gears and compare them to the ones removed. With new cam gears I would think the belt would be tighter. Atleast that was the way it was on my motor.

Ok so on the whole turning 3 degrees back how do I measure that by ea. Tooth of the timingbelt? Or what?

Re: (92EG8)
with the car off turn the crank pulley untill the slack moves to the tensioner side it should only be like 1/2 an inch or so than tighten the tensioner while the slack is on that side
the tensioner can't pull the slack if there is no slack to pull
like you said that side is nice and tight
pm if you need more direction
sorry if my format is all jacked up But i'm on my phone
