?!?!?!?!Worn Clutch Disables The Starter Somehow?!?!?!
Ive been having problems with starting my car and lately it sounds like the starter is just spinning and not catching anything.
New Battery.
New Starter.
So I talk to a guy who used to work for Honda, and he tells me that the new systems can sense when the clutch is going bad and it will somehow disable the ignition system.
Is he jerkin my chain? Or is this true. I dont want to spend anymore unneccassary money.

sounds a little far fetched....i've never heard of anything like that. I'll wait for someone who may know this answer.
EDIT: is the motor turning over when you try to start the car?

there is definitely some type of connection between the clutch and ignition system since you cant start the car if you dont push the clutch pedal in. i dont know exactly how it all works, but if the clutch is stuck or not fully disengaging, it might not be tripping whatever sensor/switch is needed to allow the car to start. thats my theory at least.

on that note, the sensor will not even allow the starter motor to spin if the clutch is not fully pressed, which leads me to believe THAT particular sensor isn't to blame.

Your friend is an idiot. Only the switch on the clutch pedal will keep it from starting. Unless you have mad crank walk, you either have a flywheel or starter problem.
the first dealer said it was a starter issue and yet i got that fixed and same problem.
im taking it to a different dealer tomorrow.

Alright, does anyone mind if I sidetrack this thread for a second? The vehicle I owned before my Si was a 1987 Dodge Ram 50 that my dad bought brand new. This truck had 212xxx miles on it when I got rid of it, and still had the original clutch. So, what I am failing to understand is how a vehicle can be 2 years old, and you're already feeling wear in the clutch. Are you that bad on a drivetrain, dude? lol.
not me. all my cars have been manual. my last car was a 98 civic coupe and i drove on the stock clutch until about 170k. The previous owner must have just learned...
My new guess is that I should re-replace the starter with one from honda or something.
Only other issue I could think of is if the starter solenoid isn't functioning right. But with two starters?

When you take the starter out turn the engine over with a long ratchet or something and look at all of the flywheel teeth. It's either a bad starter or a flywheel...
