Buy S200 or modify ecu for s300?

I have the opportunity to buy s200 from my friend for $300 with the boost option. I just started getting into this and have read the stickies a few times so sorry if I have some information that is incorrect. Also, a lot of the stickies aren't working and give out this error "The page you're looking for doesn't exist. You may have selected an outdated page or mistyped the Web page address (URL). Sorry for the inconvenience. You would be redirected to the homepage now ..."
S200 I see is external with that interface box. He doesn't have an ecu for it but says I can use my p72 that is chipped for phearable but I'd have to change a few things.
I am trying to learn all the terms and if I'm not mistaken, phearable ecu's are chipped and socketed? There was a chip in the ecu but I took it out.
My main question is, would it be cheaper to modify the phearable ecu to run s300 since it is already socketed? I see on phearable that they can prepare and ecu to run hondata but they mention that it's not the hondata unit.
I searched but found nothing like a circuit board for the s300 that you add. I think the phearable ecu uses the 28 pin and I read this on hondata's site "Socketing the s300 is very similar to the s100/s200. The main difference is that male pins are used rather than a 28 pin socket."
I'm thinking that the phearable ecu may not be the same as an ecu setup for hondata s300 because the 28 pin thing is a romulator and hondata uses the data logging cable?
Sorry, just need a little bit of guidance as to whether I should get the s200 and use my phearable p72 ecu or go s300 if it is cheaper since I have the socketed ecu.
Thanks
Steven

The s200 lacks a lot of features you may want to look into, so I'd suggest S300 if you're going to boost.
The S300 requires the male pins, which could be fitted by someone who knows what they're doing. You could also get an S300 ready ECU and sell your current one as a socketed ECU.
If you want something that will plug right into your existing ECU and is comparable in features to the Hondata S300, look into the NepTune RTP. At $399 you'll save some money over the S300, too.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm not going boost anytime soon since my motor right now is high compression.
I was also reading that I'd need a romulator or chip burner to tune s200 myself.
Is there anywhere I can buy everything I'd need to do hondata s300 myself on my p28 ecu? I can't find the "S300 unit" they mention. I'll go look at the Neptune right now as well

You may want to consider Neptune RTP or eCtune RTP as both systems work with a socketed/chipped ecu.

Thanks again guys

If that's what I need, that'll work out way better for me than s200

Thanks for that info. So if I'm not mistaken, this would be the package that would be compatible with the ecu socketed by phearable? Mine is a p72 and in the description it said it would need the p72 with a knock board. Is that the board that is on top and in the corner?
Thanks again guys

And yes the knock board is in the upper right hand corner. It is the only board that is "external" to the main PCB that is connected with a ribbon cable.
I definitely suggest NepTune as it is a great system for just a fraction of the cost.

Actually, now that I've realized you have a knock board, depending on the socket that was used in the ECU the Demon may not sit comfortably under the knock board. That's to say the knock board may be elevated slightly because of the Demon board depending on how tall the socket is. The ECU cover may still close, but you won't be able to tighten the screws all the way for the knock board, which I personally don't like.
If you had a P28 that was socketed NepTune would fit right in with no issues. Maybe selling that ECU and getting a different one prepped for the system you want is a good option for you after all.

Well it looks like I am definitely gonna use neptune since it has a lot more features than the s200 which looks like it would have been a pain since I needed more things for that.
I'll order that package and let you guys know how it all goes together and if it doesn't look like I should have it that way, I'll sell the socketed P72 and send in my P28 that I have laying around.
Thanks for all the help everyone! I'll let you know how it goes

Depending on if you want to send your ecu back out, you can just remove the knock board all together and not worry about purchasing a new ecu.
But that is completely up to you as the ECU will function without issues with out the knock board as long as you have the knock sensor disabled in the program.
This is probably the cheapest fix and will work just fine as the knock processing isn't the best with the OBD1 platform.

I bet I will definitely be happy with it! We have a dealer near here also so it should be a smooth process if anything goes wrong lol
