Default Problem

1988 Honda CRX HF 1.5L D15B6

Will not start no signs of cranking either. starter and flywheel just spin over.
it is engaging and everything but the engine doesn't fire.

I have checked.
Starter
new battery (old one was dead) new tested very good.
Ground wiring
Power wires
(so it's not an electrical contact problem)

then I pulled the plugs and they are covered in oil and gas. I'm assuming it's the valve cover gasket.. But I just want to verify that this is what it is. and it's not something serious. I'm doubting its the piston rings. but I'm going to see tonight if I have any compression what so ever.

thanks for the help.

..Casey.

do a compression test... your timing belt may have jumped timing..

and just FYI, cranking is when the engine is moving.. your engine IS cranking, but not starting..

its TOTALLY NOT THE STARTER if your motor turns.. the starts ONLY JOB is to move the engine, to start the firing process.. THATS ALL.. if the engine moves, the starter and battery are good enough to start the car

have you actually checked to see if there IS spark? like, have you taken a plug, and put it in the wire to check for spark? if not, i suggest you do so... lol

well, its probably not the piston rings, because you would have HELLA smoke coming out when it happened..

Im going to put my money on really low compression, because of a skipped timing belt.. Compression test, and check cam timing

I put in the new plugs changed the gaskt. but umm... it turn the key.. starter is spining and engaging.. but cam sprocket hardly even moves if it does it's like 1/8 turn every now and then... could my dumbass friend have put something together wrong in the clutch assembly when he put it on? this is really not making me happy. guess I'll make sure there is fuel and that all the fluid levels are good.they should be though.

sounds like it doesn't have a woodruff key holding the timing belt gear to the crankshaft or the key is broken
