i was testing my stock h22 on the highway today. suddenly the rpm stop at 6500 on 4th gear. i pulled to neutral, then my battery lights came on (my engine stalled?). i pulled over on the shoulder and tried to restart it but it wouldn't start anymore. sounds like a starter problem because it won't crank. does this mean my engine locked up? there was smoke coming from my starter/ tranny. can this possibly be an electrical problem?

it seems to me your battery could of died, so swap a new battery in to start it up first. if it doesn't crank with the new battery, then your starter died. if it starts up but the RPM still stops suddenly, then perform a compression test

but then the car died when i was at 100+ mph. could it be a starting problem? i was thinking maybe the engine or tranny locked up on me because i was pushing it too hard. usually everything's fine but somehow this time it gave up on me. what could it be? thanks
i dont think that it would b a problem with the battery if the car just died, since the engine was moving the alternator would keep the voltage up and that would not cause the engine to stall. somthing else should have caused this not a dead battery. what else happend when that car stalled any wierd noises? anything else that you didnt mention? if the motor wont crank what does it do any noises at all, nothing at all?

well on 4th gear, the rpm stopped at around 6500 as if it was red line (first through third didn't do so). i pulled to neutral, then the battery and oil lights came on (engine stalled). i pulled over to the shoulder and tried to restart it but the crank just goes grr..grr. when you turn the keys. it's seems like something is holding the crank to not turn. if you keep trying for a while, there will be smoke coming from the starter (plug wire burning).

yea but you still need a battery to hold a charge because the alternator wouldn't be able to supply enough power for the vehicle to run. the alternator charges the battery and the vehicle runs off the battery. obviously if the alternator can run the vehicle by itself, it wouldnt need a battery

if you really think its not the battery, then have someone voltmeter the battery to test if its dead. if it is dead then replace. if its alright, then its your starter.

starter have probelm starting. it heats up real bad when trying to crank. sounds like starter is stressing. it seems like something locking the starter from spinning. or it could just be a starter problem, but it can't die when it's rolling because a starters job is only to crank and start engine. after that its job is done. is this what they call an engine lock. did a little research. bent rods is possible.

yes, didn't work. shouldn't it start even if starter is bad. it lock when i punch in the clutch to start the car up while in netrual. locked as in the car stoped instantly like when you slam on the break. weird.

the battery is there to start the car after that the alternator charges the battery back up for the next start and runs all the electronics in the car. trust me the car will run off the alt, try it, start your car and then remove the battery terminals its works.
if the car would not start from a push start and its lockes the wheels as if the breaks where full on, then the crack is locked for some reason. was it wet out when you where last running the car? one thing you could try just to see is to pull the spark plugs and try to crank the motor then if it cranks then just put the plugs back in and it should start if not then there is somthing wrong internally
