Default DC 4-1 or 4-2-1 for 97 GSR?

Websites say 4-1 gives more power from 4K+ w/o losing any bottom end and 4-2-1 gives more low end power and torque? Who actually has a GSR and have experienced either and what are your inputs? I'm running a stock motor w/ stock redline, so no crazy 10k redline yet.. Any help would be great.

The 4-2-1 will give like a 1hp gain down in the bottom with most of the gain in the mid. The 4-1 will give a decent gain up top (6k+) but you might possibly lose lowend. That being said, unless you are going for a 4-2-1 hybrid (Hytech) then I say go for the 4-1, especially on a GSR.

I would go with the 4 2 1 design because you dont want to lose any low end grunt if possible and the 4 into 1 design is cool only when your pushing cams and lots of air.

I have the 4-1. I had no loses over stock. This shows up on my dyno also. Unfortunately between dynos I did both header and exhaust.

4-1 if you plan on doing some major NA stuff later. 4-2-1 if it's daily driven and really don't plan on modifying it past basic bolt ons.

just get the 4-1. our little 4 cylinders aren't made for the bottom end power so we have to catch up on the top end. the 4-1 header has great top end. im not sure where i read this but it gave like 10 wheel horsepower at the top end. and no im not a dumb lil kid that believes everything i read. i have actually felt a huge difference in the top end on that header.

Not a huge difference between the 4-2-1 and 4-1 headers tested there.

anh you're all pointin this guy in the 4-1 direction, why?

no ground clearance=more dents and constricted airflow
if he's askin bout headers he'll probably go with exhaust and intake so a 4-1 will not net any gains until those other options are installed and will only produce minimal gains over a good 421 unless he spends some duckets on tuning the thing.
maybe itts gonna be a track car but then again it amy be a daily driver
4-1 is great if you have the supercharger/extremely modded NA idea goin in your head and have all the other components bolted on already.
personnally i would go for a 4-2-1 design. more midrange and improved top-end beacuse of the better flow design. if some one will post the great header test for this guy , i'm sure all the answeres that he would have questions for could be found there.

dude go 4-2-1 get a comptech, they are torque stepped to improve the midrange(2500-5000) and they produce just about as much power as all the 4-1's out there.
DC sports headers crack!! so i'd stray away form them, cermaic rusts fast too!!
if you dgo JDM you'll need to modify your cat or get a new one because the collector on the JDM pipes is 2.5" compared to stock 2.25 for gsr's.

If you get JDM get a new cat also, since the stock one is 2 inches internally.

why the car will have no low end and it will suck as a daily driver. go with the comptech the amount of time you sp[end replacing your 4-1 headers becasue they are dented or cracked from speed bumps is not worth it.

Get a 4-1. Everyone knows that GS-R's are good in top end. So make a good thing even better. The car has a strong point so make it stronger. As far as scraping and what not, buy a skid plate. They have those for 4-1 header. And as far as losing low end torque and power, launch on drag radials while bouncing off the rev! Jk
