Run the power wire to a source that switches on with the ignition, such as a radio remote turn on.
I assume that you tried it to the battery and it stayed powered on. you can do that, but you'll want a toggle switch as it will just read the battery volts constantly.

No idea what a "swoosh" volt gauge is though. That may, though not likely, make a difference in how you wire it up. Waht did the directions say?

The directions were pure garbage, half of it was in Japanese. It gave absolutely no direction at all, just a description of the gauge and its functions. Also, radio remote turn on? What the heck is that!?!?! Btw, its a 94 Accord LX.

Here is exactly what I've got.

What voltage are you trying to measure? If you just want to see what your accessories are running on you can access the voltage from the inner fuse box panel.

*Edit* And if you do that I would recommend going to the junkyard and cutting off some of the single wire connectors for the fuse box so it looks cleaner it's what I did for my alarm install.

To be totally honest I have no idea, I thought maybe it would be cool to be able to measure the batt. volts because my car has horrible grounding and turning the lights on etc. causes the RPM's to drop slightly, so I thought I could use a gauge to see.... I have no idea, it's cool to have a gauge. Now I just sort of want it installed and working!!!

In that fuse block there is

- constant 12V
- 12V when turned on
- 12V when lights turned on

So you probably want the 12V when turned on, I'm not sure which is where position wise, all you need is a light tester to check.

Still pretty confused, do you mean the fuse block as in the fuses under the hood? I don't even think the wires will reach that far.

OK! This gauge is a pain to install!!

Here is what the directions/description say, there really are no directions.

Red Wire - Battery +

Black Wire - Ground.

Orange Wire - ON, the car power line that will not be disconnected at start of engine, from key switch

Yellow Wire - ACC, from key switch.

Brown - Small Lamp

the second reply is the answer here....connect the power wire to a source that comes on when the car does and not a constant source. the ground is obvious, and the illumination can be tied into your parking lights, so that the light only comes on at night.

Well what I did was tie the RED power cable to the battery and have the BLACK wire grounded, as mentioned above, the gauge is now on 24/7... I bought a switch but haven't properly installed it yet. I'm thinking about just trying to find an alternate power source that turns on when the car is on.

I have a grounding kit installed. Thanks for that link, thats exactly the manual included.

I wired the gauge to the battery and have a switch by the dead pedal, it looks pretty cool and works well, but is relatively useless.
