Couldn't possibly hold up any better than the ones in that HT magazine article that were boosted over 500hp, huh?
Yeah, they ran a set of Arias 2618 T6 pistons with C16, blah blah on Motec. Hey, think, it was stock rods.
GM had a team of engineers administer the first attempts to bring the Ecotec program into the sport compact racing scene. Their first move was a 150 shot of nitrous. You know, just to see what it would do. The rods snapped like twigs. No good.
I just think if a guy detonated at all, with big power, the stock rods are done. HT didn't even change the bearings. Ghetto at its best. Also, I think the rings were the original ones. No where in the article is there a disclosure regarding the rods being shotpeened. At least I never read anything about it. Just stock rods. lol
Something just doesn't seem right.

Luckies. I did right around 270whp before my #3 ringland let out on stock pistons. The rods sustained that just fine. On an upgraded set of pistons... I would honestly throw them through the roof
take a look at this thread. highest hp stock block thread. 630 whp and 390tq on a b16.

Well, with nitrous, as mentioned before, GM indirectly showed that the stock rod can die out first. Makes me wonder if Honda's pistons are not nearly as strong as their own connecting rods. GM couldn't make their own rods out last their own pistons, but Honda does right the opposite. However, GM engineers were testing with nitrous and not boost. I also think, but can't remember exactly, that GM was using race fuel, as was HT in the way they used C16.
When you get PING, you get POW, then you ultimately get BOOM. lol

Look at a B16a rod vs a D16, or an LS or GSR rod. They are short and stout little bastards. But as with everything to do with Forced Induction, The tune has astronomical effects on how long it will last
