I'm new here and my question in my son has a 1986 Civic wagon 1.5(carb), fwd and he blew the motor, could'nt find a replacement motor cheap enough, so we bought a 1993 Civic 1.6 for $500.00 and want to install it, I'm a mechanic by trade, I need to find out what other problems I will run into besides the fuel system. if anyone has any info and tips it we would be very greatful.

We have plans later down the road to do some mods. but for now we just want to get it running.

How did he blow it up? I know the older carby cars will sometimes split a piston (from what I've been told by dealer mechanics from back then) and I remember seeing them sieze and break the camshaft when run low on oil (people confuse it for a broken timing belt, which happens after the cam siezes).

The cause was from me being lazy and not changing the oil and it caused the camshaft to break. I know I will have to weld in new engine mount brackets and install the fuel pump in the tank. I have always wanted to mess around with a import so this will be fun to me.

Thanks to everone but, I'm giving up on the 86 for now and gonna fix the 93 civic 1.5 16v, it wasnt a 1.6, I just dont have the Patience to combine the wiring harness together and do all the custom mounts and my son asked if I could have it done in 3 weeks. I ripped the car apart last night and decided this is a project that will take some time, so I will save the car and tow it back home and work on it when I want and not try to rush myself and my youngest will be driving in 3 years so I will fix it for him.

if you are giving up on the wagon, you should try and sell it, many people on this site would love to have a old school wagon to use/modify. dont worry about the engine issue, some have spares in their homes ready to drop in at any moment.

 

After talking with my son's they want to keep it as a project car(Acura motor, turbo and some other mods), this way no rush, question does anyone know where to get floor pans, and other panels at for something this old and is there ways to mod the torsion bars for the front suspension, (lower), been doing research for the cluster and found the 89 looks the same in pics.

 

Any Acura integra engine from 86-89 will work.
You will need the ECU, wiring harness, Engine/Tranny, Axles and front hubs....

The 86-87 are vacuum advance and the 88-89 are electronic advance.
My understanding that the vacuum advance is an easier swap, but I am not sure why off the top of my head.

The torsion bars can be "re-indexed" to lower the vehicle(or raise if you really want)....

The info is out there on how to do all of it...
