Icon6 knock sensor on my H-22

what are some of the symptoms of not having or a bad knock sensor. I don't have a KS in my car right now and I'm having all sorts of issues I just wanna make sure by replacing the ks it will fix em. my oil light comes on all the time and I check my oil constantly. it feels like it has a govenor on it. V-tech runs bad if at all. the car cuts out at high rpms. smells like its running really rich and bad gas mileage. are all these things cause of the KS?

Don't wait for a response. Just get a new knock sensor. Then go from there.

You could either have bad oil pressure or a bad oil sending unit. First thing I would do is drop the oil pan, remove the pickup screen and check it out and clean it if necessary. If it's clean then the oil sending unit could be bad and giving you a false reading. You're VTEC system relies on oil pressure to work properly if at all so again, check the pickup in the pan. If you don't have a knock sensor then the ECU will retard the timing a bit and possibly disable VTEC, you definitely need to have one and they aren't cheap. Oh and if you're running a JDM H22a with the JDM P13 ecu then you do have a governor, all JDM cars do. Pray you haven't hurt anything driving it the way you have with low oil pressure...

the vtec will not engage if the ecu cannot read the knock sensor or if you have serious knock from something like pining. and the computer will go into what they call limp mode (why it seems governed). you can either try bypassing the knock with a piezoelectric sensor from radio shack which cost less than $5 (although you have to find a good location to put it on) or do the wise thing and buy a knock sensor. it would be a good idea if you got an OBD scanner and checked for any other codes. IF THE OIL LIGHT DOES NOT GO AWAY DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR. you will only hurt your engine by driving the car without adequate oil pressure.

unless you are getting a code 23, you do not need a new knock sensor. check your codes 1st, then report back.

OP, just wanted to add to what i mentioned before... if you decided to replace the oil pressure sensor and the oil light (red oil light) still comes on after you replaced the sensor then it would be best not to drive the car until you resolve the oil pressure problem. i would even consider checking the wire harness just to make sure power is making it to the sensor

Ok sorry for jumping in on the thread lango-h22
I have a 99 accord w/ f23a motor
It has a broken knock sensor and I noticed since the knock sensor broke my car Boggs out when I get to 4000rpms but that's only when I floor it so that VTEC can crack(car is auto) if I drive normal and tranny shift on its own it drives fine..can the VTEC bogging be caused by the knock sensor??

I have an 01 prelude and my knock sensor is broken and has been broken. Car runs fine and taps into the vtech fine. I haven't replaced it because I don't need a $90 part to tell me my engine is knocking. I have ears and they work just fine.

As long as you don't buy any bad gas you probably won't have a problem. However, I'm not sure what you plan on doing if your engine does knock.

The KS was put there for a reason...if you want to run the risk of not having then don't replace it. Spending 100 bucks is a small price to pay compared to buying/rebuilding your motor...
