This setup belongs to Chris. Chris has been a TDC customer for over 2 years now. He first came to us with several bolt-on parts and boost dreams. His personal motto has been "one step at a time", and slowly he sourced all of the parts need for a turbo install.

We installed and tuned his first setup over a year and a half ago, and he's stayed true to moving "one step at a time" by upgrading parts of his turbo kit as time and budget allowed. After the turbo kit install, we installed a Comp stage 4 Clutch, then a Hydro GSR tranny with an OBX differential. Next, his eBay turbo got the boot in favor of a Turbonetics unit. The car was his daily driver and weekend warrior. All good things usually come to an end, and his DA was no exception.

At the end of July, the DA gave up the ghost. I got a call that the engine had seized up. A rod bearing on the #4 rod had spun onto itself, and completely locked the engine. No sweat, "one step at a time". Since June, he's gathered all the parts to finish what he started. He's asked me to post the pics here, so here we go.

Here are the two bearings that started this:

The two of these were stuck together, one on top of the other. I had to pry them apart with a screwdriver. Of course, the crank had to be turned or replaced, so we swapped it for another one we had in the back.

From the top... Shiny. CP pistons, Eagle rods, OEM Honda rod and main bearings.

ARP Studs and OEM Honda

Complete Crower and Cams

Ready for the car!

Update: 12-04-09

11.1 PSI on E85. This is high as the wastegate allowed us to go since it get's stuck. Chris is looking for a new one and should hopefully have it back on the dyno within a week or two.

Going in....

and in...

and initial start up

We broke it in on the dyno last night, and he's driving the car now to put a few miles on it before Friday. On Friday, we're going to put some 1000cc precisions in, fill up with E85, and crank to boost up! Be on the look out for the dyno results.

Just for a heads-up, big cams and a log manifold dont mix on some occasions. Hope yours makes big power though. Turn that bish up!

What can you do. If the funds aren't there for a tubular manifold then there's not that much of a choice. He's looking for 400 whp which I'm pretty sure he'll hit even though that manifold is choking him.

Very nice man, I really like your posts. I have seen a few of them fairly recently and like how you document everything and post videos and such. Best of luck to and the owner on this engine. Boost FTW!!

Why can't we sticky a post about the rediculousness of the 60-1? It's such a terrible turbo unless you only want peak numbers - I've actually seen t4 setups spool faster.

I bet if you set Crome Gold up to use the boost solenoid, you could go much farther. I'm using ectune for that, and I'm at 18psi with a ~3psi ebay spring. If a WG gets stuck open, I could understand. However the spring usually binds, so it sticks closed = boost creep.

You're more than welcome to buy the customer a better turbo and we'll melt the Turbonetics unit into the ground. We are not a fan of Turbonetics either but he got a good deal on it, just like he got a good deal on the CP 9:1 pistons ($100) and the 403 n/a cams and so on.

True, it will spool up faster with an electronic boost control solenoid enabled through Crome Gold. Unfortunately, Chris like the majority of people now a days, don't necessarily have money laying around and probably have other priorities. In Chris's case, there's a wedding loan on top of everything else.

It still should be a beast, nonetheless. What kind of power is he shooting for on the retune?
