How do i find out if a motor is hot?
chp...DMV...carfax...or state reff of california! especially with the law of california...if you get caught with a stolen hot motor...your ride will be crush and you be doing some time behind bars. make sure that the vin tag is still on the transmission. plus take a look on your passenger door to see if you have the state reff of california sticker lable. if you don't have that...then i guaranty you that is stolen!
ok well with carfax i would have 2 pay" just looked it up", chp said they supposedly dnt give that type of info out and the dmv said they can check 2 see if the car was reported stolen but i would have 2 go in n fill out sum paper work in case it does come up stolen so they can find out where it is through me. hmmm.??.

National Insurance Crime Bureau would be a start.

I only tells you if the car has not been recovered yet though, so the motor may be hot still.
If you are unsure if it's hot, then don't buy it. Go find another. The more people who buy stolen parts, the more the cars will be stolen. Everyone likes cheap parts or parts that are for a good deal, but keep in mind if it was stolen, your going to be fueling the fire.

Call your local sheriff department. Tell them you are buying a motor off the street and give them the vin number. Don't let them know you have the motor even if you do. If you own it already, better hope that it is legit. Obd1 vehicles doesn't have vin plates on block or transmission.
i dnt deal with hot parts i hate thieves, its just that people lie, old neighbor told me hes selling a bottom end cuz its got bad rings its a 97 wit vin but i dnt wna just take his word on it being legit rather know 4 a fact thats y trying 2 find the easiest way 2 find out.

Take the complete block to chp. I done it many of times. They can read the numbers under the block code. They do not do it over the phone.
