which bearing are you talking about.....

simple answer is yes, if your tranny is making noise it will only get worse until it gives out.

As the metal particles from the self-destructing bearing circulate thru the oil, there will be some capacity for the magnet to pick them out and isolate them, but while the magnet is still "sorting things out" there is the potential for all kinds of damage to other bearings, machined surfaces and seals. The longer you wait to get this repaired, the more damage there will be, and the higher the ultimate cost to you.

The magnet was only ever intended to pick up residual metal particles from normal wear, not to compensate for a "catastrophic failure".

My best advice to you would be to get the failed bearing replaced at the first available opportunity, or resign yourself to replacing the transmission entirely not that long afterwards. It may already be too late. Consult a good trans shop.

good thing about da cable transmissions- they are very cheap to replace as opposed to a hydro

You know what would be even cheaper than getting a bare-bones trans rebuild? Walking to work. No conflict of interest here. ;^b

Heck, trying to just inject some perspective.
