Well, I just bought the car and it did not come with the key fob or the stock radio. I bought the key fob and installed an aftermarket radio. I cannot get the programming to work or even go into the cylcing mode.

So my question is: Do I need the oem cd player to make my keyless work?

Did you purchase the correct transmitter? Does the button on the right side say "option" or does it have picture of a cars trunk? If it has the "option" button, It a remote for a security system. The keyless is not integrated into the audio system.
