Okay, here's my question. Recently, I dropped my keys, which caused my remote to break into a million little pieces. Fine, I'll buy a new one.

HOWEVER, I just saw on a website that to program the remote, you need to push a button on the factory installed stereo. As far as I know, my factory stereo has been pushed back into the dashboard, behind the aftermarket one I had installed.

Is this information correct? If so, can I ever have another keyless remote for my car?

Couldnt you or someone just remove your aftermarket head unit, pull the factory unit back out and reconfigure the remote and just shove it back in?

Other than that, I dont believe it possible, the reason for your head unit pushed back into the dash is primarily to retain the use of anti-theft deterrent and keyless entry.

1. Remove your factory unit.
2. Buy a better alarm / Keyless entry system
3. Problem solved & less weight in the car =P

WHATTTT, You have a SECOND original head unit BEHIND your aftermarket one!! The Honda stock anti-theft system and remote uses the STOCK head unit as it's controler!! That is CRAZY!! My Girl's '99 EX sedan CAME (USED) with a flip down Alpine and about $2,000 worth of speakers. Is her stock radio chilling behind the Alpine??

The whole idea of having to leave it in the dash seems ridiculous to me, but I understand why. Now, though, if I DO have to pull it to program a new remote...I'll probably have to pay Best Buy to do it and they're just out of control with "custom labor" charges. I don't really have any clue how to work on the stereo, and I would just do it myself, but I'm a little nervous I'll be stuck with a stereo hanging out of my dash.

My boyfriend just bought a '96 civic ex that we had a deck put in, also by best buy. I'll give him the heads up to never lose his remote or break it as I did.

In short, yes. I hid mine down behind the cupholders to retain factory keyless entry.

To the OP, its prob just chillen somewhere behind the dash or hidden in the trunk depending how it was done. Just pop off a few dash peices and find it, its still like a radio just hidden. Do whatever it is you have to do and then cover it back up. You shouldnt have to unplug anything as I think the green plug in the one for keyless entry and should still be plugged into the OEM head unit. Should be pretty easy.

you shouldnt have to worry about this problem on a 99. it only applies to 96-98 civics.99-00 civic keyless module are usually white boxes in the drivers kick panel.

no the radios are only in the 96 to 98 models 99 and up you dont need to keep the stock ones in, the only reason for that is because the interior light and locks are wired through it for some stupid reason
