VOTE-Change oil when warm or cold? quick Poll question
I came across that its better to change oil if its cold?
usually i change it if its hot/warm, bc the instructions on the manual said so.
The instructions in the manual said that its better if its warmed up. and wait after 1/2 hour.
Some people says that if its cold that all the fluid is already at the oil pan and you get more of the oil out early in the morning.
Also i heard that its better, because the warmer the easier to flow, but not as much as if it is cold is it true?
Which way change oil if engine is HOT OR COLD???????
also why???

A lot of people will opt for when it's a bit warm because it's thinner and will drain faster.
I've done it both ways, I don't really adhere to a rule when I do it. Most of the time it's after it's been cooling down for a half hour to an hour, just so I'm not burning myself on **** underneath.

I do it when it warm also.
when oil is cold it tends to be pretty thick, warm its thin, thin will drain better, i have also been told you will get more of the crap out if you do it when its warm.

Either way, when I leave it overnight there is very little oil in the filter=less cleanup. With a warm engine I will wait 30 minutes.

I drive my Civics around the block and then drain the oil (see service manual instructions), but then again I also now have an exhaust pipe blister on my arm.
^ Thank you. You can't argue with the manual.
An aside, but I always didn't like the dipstick on B16's. Taking it out is simple but putting it back in is like threading a needle in the dark.

lol, the first rule is I'm not supposed to talk about it. And the second rule is, I'm not supposed to talk about it.
I change my oil when the engine is hot. I just crack the plug loose with a wrench and then use a long extension to spin it out the rest of the way. I wait like 5-10 minutes to let it drain, thread the plug in and drop the filter. Mechanics gloves or a oil filter socket works nice so you don't have to grab the hot filter with bare hands.

I usually drain my oil after driving home from work. I let it drain OVERNIGHT, then change the filter, and refill in the morning.
