Default changing oil when engine is hot or cold.?

i was told its better to change the oil when engine is fully warm then one that sat over night.

i usually let the car sit over night and drain the oil the next morning so i can get the most out of the engine.

what do u guys do here?

Dosent really matter, less chance of buring yourself if its cold, but when its warmer its thinner and comes out better I suppose, not like it really matters.

I drive my car to the store, buy my oil and oil filter then drive back home and let it sit for about an hour.

its still warm but nothing to cry about. (but just in case youre a wimp...I'm not responsible if you burn yourself)

It's good to change the oil when it's warm/hot if you can do it quickly without burning yourself as the oil flows much better when warmed up rather then cold.

I'll take my car out for a few pulls on a road close buy then drive into the driveway and by time I jack the front end up it will be good enough to just flow nice into the oil bucket

i guess warm would be ok since it might come out faster being that it's thinner. but it really doesn't matter. it's not like your going to get every drop of old oil out.

don't get a job at a express oil change spot.

and it's allready been said, but i'll restate... it's better to do it when it's warm or hot. just don't be a jackass and touch the exhaust it's really not hard to avoid.

better to change it when its a little warm. reason is it get s all the debris in the engine out to when its warmed up. i always just start it up in the morning, let it warm up a bit and then change the oil. by the time the oil drains the filter and header and stuff that burns you, cools down

i work in an express shop, after about the 100th burn it doesnt even bother you anymore

if the oil is warm, it comes out faster.

cold it comes out slower

BTW i hate the feeling of cold oil on my skin eeewwwwwww its gross

Try to do it warm/hot... whatever you can get it to without being so hot you can barely touch the oil filter. But when I unscrew the oil filter you can use an oil filter wrench to LOOSEN it from underneath, then go above the engine and uncrew it by hand the rest of the way so any spilling oil doesn't get on your arm. I learned this just the other week when I changed mine.

Oh yeah, btw, don't try to save the oil pan plug when you loosen it, let that **** drop so you can get your self out of the way of the potentially hot oil, i let mines drop because my catch pan has a filter on it that catches it.
