2004 Supercharged S2000 No VTEC, EPS malfunction, VSS not showing in AEM 30-6052
First of all, we couldn't get VTEC to engage (we have the VTEC options on and off above/below rpm's set to 4100 rpm each) but after looking into it further, we realized that the ECU is not reading from the VSS. His speedometer works, so i know the VSS is connected, but it doesn't show up in AEMTuner. No matter how fast you drive it stays at "0 MPH". Now obviously this is why VTEC isn't engaging because one of the requirements is for vehicle speed to be >0mph, but why is the speed not showing up in AEMTuner even though his speedo is working?
Secondly, his tachometer does not work. In AEMTuner I can monitor/log rpm's just fine, but his actual tach is dead. Makes no sense.
And lastly, why is the EPS light on? I know it's controlled by a completely different computer, so why would swapping out ECU's cause it to malfunction?

his speedo is working, it's just that it's not showin up in aemtuner. were you using an aem ecu?
yea. it was fine on the stock ECU. Installed a brand new AEM ECU and these problems arose.
I would like to say: check the wiring, but I guess you havent moved them arround too much for a plug and play install!
still, its a quick thing to check grounds arround cluster and ecu!

I thought of that also, but like you say, there's not much to move around with the wiring...all we did was unplug the stock ecu and plug in the aem ecu.

Are you starting with the base S2000 map from AEM, or from scratch? Have you checked the AEM forums or our turning forum here by chance?
you dont need the vss to activate vtec.
call aem tech support, the jumper for the vss input may need to be changed. when i put my 1050 into my s2000 i had to change that jumper; however, my speedo didnt work with the jumper in the wrong spot.

it's not mine, it's my buddy's. even though hondata is great tuning software, I would never support (or suggest a friend to support) such a sue happy company as themselves. What they did to Dave was completely unacceptable.
We were actually using a map that was professionally tuned on AEMPro and had it converted to AEMTuner via the software. Apparently the conversion didn't do it's job and that was the problem. We loaded an AEMTuner base cal and it worked fine. Shoulda known...stupid mistake.
exactly. we ended up calling but the tech guy didn't know either.
We did that, and they said to use the vss input. But when we changed maps we checked and it was actually using T3 or something like that IIRC. We were using a 30-6052 (series 2) box so maybe that was the problem? Not sure. His speedo was working, just wasn't showing up in AEMTuner.
How is vtec going to work when it's not showing up in the software? one of the conditions that must be met for vtec to engage is "vtec on above x(0)MPH". if the computer never sees anything > than 0mph, vtec isn't going to engage

how is that being an ameture? Considering AEM couldn't even help us tells me it wasn't just cause I'm an "ameture"...you try and tune with AEMTuner and see how well you do. After being used to pro, it's very hard to get used to.
