how to remove dash?
Search no good.
4th/5th gen should be pretty much the same. Helms says steering column needs to be undone and dropped to remove the entire dash.
The whole job seems easy enough I'm just not sure if I have to lower the steering column or not. Anyone removed their entire dash? Does the steering colum need to be undone?
Thanks

yah, after spending 2 summers of my life installing i can tell you thats a big waste of time. just put it around the cruise control unit like everyone else... best you can hope for is an amatuer thief and/or hear it go off anyway. if you wanna hide something hide a fuel cutoff switch or relay. i treat alarms like keyless entry systems that happen to beep now and then.
i took out my dash once to fix a couple melted wired i couldnt get to, and i thought i did a good job and had a couple screws left over and ever since the dash has rattled a lil
.. leave it in
we also installed lojacks, which was handled by a special guy.. in theory even you arent supposed to know where it is. I had one put in my 1995 GSR and i found it in 3 minutes.. he put it in the area between the rear folding seat/body. .... that car was stolen in 1998 and recovered a chopped up shell in 4 days ... was not worth the 500.00 and i got screwed on their guarantee because i stupidly said i even knew where it was and they blamed me for it 'not working'

to answer your question, yes, you do have to drop down the steering column, but it is no big deal, just to nuts you have to take off and it will drop down to a lower perch, thats the easy part. The hard part is getting the wiring harness out of the dash, THEN putting it back in.
Okay thanks. I figured the dash looks pretty easy in the Helms (have you noticed the Helms sometimes lists steps you don't have to do?). I am essentially "restoring" my car and was gonna poke around under the dash for the hell of it, but if the harness is a PITA I think i'll forget it.
